AUSTRALIA- Travellers at Australian Airports are facing significant delays as a widespread IT outage disrupts passenger processing.
The Australian Border Force (ABF) has confirmed that the Advanced Passenger Processing (APP) systems, managed by their service provider, are currently affected by the outage.
This disruption has impacted the APP functionality at all international check-in points.
Australian Airports Face IT Outage
In response to the situation, the ABF is actively working with their service provider to address and resolve the IT outage as quickly as possible.
A spokesperson from the Australian Border Force stated, “The system outage is affecting the APP in all international check-in points. We are working with the service provider to assist with resolving the matter urgently. The ABF will revert to manual processing of passengers where applicable.”
To alleviate the impact of the IT outage on passengers, additional staff members from the Australian Border Force have been deployed to assist with manual processing. This measure aims to minimize delays and ensure a smoother experience for affected travellers.
Recent Setbacks for Australian Airports
The current IT outage comes shortly after Sydney International Airport (SYD) faced extensive delays due to strong winds just over a week ago. These consecutive disruptions have compounded the challenges faced by airport authorities and passengers, causing frustration and inconvenience.
Strong winds at Sydney Airport have resulted in the cancellation of over 100 flights, causing travel chaos for thousands of Australian passengers.
This comes shortly after a shortage of air traffic controllers caused by staff illness led to the closure of airspace south of Brisbane airport. Further causing widespread disruptions to flights along the east coast of Australia.
To manage the situation, the cancelled flights from Sydney will be spread out throughout the day as the airport relies on its single east-west runway instead of its two north-south tarmacs.
The airport is currently experiencing strong westerly winds, with speeds reaching up to 70km/h, further adding to the challenges faced by the aviation industry.
According to a spokeswoman for Sydney Airport, Airservices Australia has informed them that the airport will operate with a single runway today due to strong winds.
Passengers: Be Prepared for Delays
Given the ongoing IT outage affecting the Advanced Passenger Processing systems at Australian airports, travellers are advised to prepare for potential delays in processing their travel documents.
It is recommended to arrive at the airport well before scheduled departure times. Further, stay informed about updates from airline carriers and airport authorities.
The Australian airports are grappling with a widespread IT outage, causing significant travel delays during the passenger processing phase.
The Australian Border Force is actively working to resolve the issue with their service provider. Subsequently, deploying extra staff to facilitate manual processing.
These recent disruptions add to the challenges faced by airports. Further emphasizing the importance of preparedness and staying informed for affected travellers.
