In a crazy event that was captured on camera, a man on a flight to Boston allegedly attempted to stab a flight attendant with a metal spoon and crank open an emergency door. He was then assaulted by other passengers.
Los Angeles to Boston
Federal prosecutors allege that Francisco Severo Torres, 33, started a panic on a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Boston on Sunday when he lunged at a flight attendant with a broken spoon and made a stabbing motion, striking the victim three times around the neck.
According to the US Attorney’s Office for Massachusetts, the irrational man was promptly attacked by other passengers, but the flight crew was able to control him until he was taken into custody at Logan International Airport.
Torres, of Leominster, Massachusetts, is said to have attempted to open an emergency door early in the trip, which is what reportedly led to the chaotic scene.
The flight crew was informed in the cockpit that a door separating first class from coach had been disarmed less than an hour before landing, according to charge papers.
US Attorney’s Office said
The door’s handle was not properly locked, as was observed by a flight attendant. Before telling the captain and the rest of the flight crew, the worker swiftly secured the door and emergency slide. Torres was spotted by a different flight attendant who feared the passenger might have tampered with the door, according to the prosecution. Torres allegedly inquired as to whether any footage had been captured of him when challenged.
The US Attorney’s Office said in a news release on Monday that the flight attendant informed the captain that they thought Torres represented a threat to the aircraft and that the pilot needed to land the plane as quickly as possible.
Prosecutors claim that shortly after is when Torres reportedly lost control, standing up, and hitting the flight attendant with the spoon. A local station was able to collect video of the incident, and it showed a man approaching the flight attendants and launching into a nonsensical tirade.
So where is Homeland Security with the gun? he yells. “Because I’m waiting for them to point the pistol at me so I can prove to everyone that I won’t perish when I take every bullet in that clip to wherever they shoot it in my body, and then I’ll kill every man on this plane,” the speaker said.
Where are they diverting us, he also inquired. It will be carnage everywhere, regardless of where it is.”You can leave. If you want, you can all leave right now! I won’t kill you if you’re a man, so you can leave. The rider screamed.
When he charged at the flight attendants, he reportedly screamed, “because I’m taking over this plane,” and several passengers followed behind him to tackle him to the ground, according to the video.

A charge complaint states that Torres admitted to wanting to open the door so he could exit the aircraft. According to the records, he also acknowledged knowing that if he succeeded, many people would die.
According to the charging complaint, Torres stated he attacked the flight attendant because he felt the member of the flight crew was attempting to murder him. To create a weapon, he allegedly split the spoon in half.
United Airlines
According to the feds, a fellow passenger claimed that Torres had reportedly questioned another passenger where the safety card indicated the location of the door handle during the pre-flight safety briefing.
One count of attempting to use a lethal weapon to interfere with members of the flight crew and attendants is brought against Torres. He was imprisoned before a hearing on March 9 after making an appearance in court on Monday.
United Airlines acknowledged that the passenger has been barred from all of its flights while an investigation is ongoing and that it is assisting law police with their inquiry.
No one was hurt, according to the airliner. The airline issued a statement saying, “We have zero tolerance for any sort of violence on our aircraft.
