ATLANTA- Delta Air Lines (DL) will expand its Europe network in 2027 with new nonstop service linking Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) with Athens International Airport (ATH), and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) with Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE).
The airline will also launch Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), while extending several transatlantic routes into earlier spring periods or later fall and winter dates to give customers more opportunities to travel to Europe.
Delta Expands 2027 Transatlantic Network
Delta is adding three new US-Europe routes for the 2027 travel season while extending service on several existing transatlantic routes.
The expansion covers new nonstop connections from Detroit and Boston, the airline’s first-ever nonstop service from Austin to Paris, and a broader seasonal schedule across its European network.
Jeff Arinder, Delta’s Vice President of International Network Planning, said the changes respond to continued customer demand for greater flexibility, convenience and choice when traveling to Europe.
The expanded schedule is designed to support spring, summer and fall travel rather than concentrating service only around the peak summer season.
Delta’s nonstop European network is also supported by partnerships with Air France, KLM, Virgin Atlantic and other airline partners. These relationships provide access to hundreds of destinations across Europe through connecting itineraries.
Boston Adds New Nonstop Service
Delta will launch 4 times weekly nonstop service between Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) on May 7, 2027. The seasonal service will operate through October 29, 2027.
Sharon Williams, Massport’s Executive Director of Aviation, said Italy remains a highly popular destination for New England travelers. She also highlighted the new service’s role in supporting tourism, cultural connections, and stronger ties between Boston and Italy.
Venice will become Delta’s 13th unique long-haul destination from Boston during the peak summer season and its 12th destination in continental Europe. The route will also make Boston Delta’s third US gateway to Venice.
The new Boston-Venice service will provide connections to nearly 20 destinations across the United States. Delta will also increase Boston-Milan service to daily in 2027, adding frequency on another major Italy route.
The expansion strengthens Delta’s overall Italy network, which will offer up to 17 peak-day departures from the United States and more than 30,000 nonstop seats to Italy each week.
Delta identifies itself as Boston’s No. 1 carrier and continues to expand the city’s role as a gateway to Europe. Boston is also described by the airline as its closest US hub to Europe, supporting connections between customers across the United States and destinations across the Atlantic.
The Boston-Venice route will operate with a widebody Airbus A330-300. Customers will have access to Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main cabins.
First Nonstop Athens Route
Delta will begin three-times-weekly nonstop service between Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) and Athens International Airport (ATH) on June 8, 2027. The seasonal route will operate through October 28, 2027.
Chad Newton, CEO of the Wayne County Airport Authority, said the service will provide Southeast Michigan travelers with nonstop access to Athens for the first time at Detroit. He also pointed to potential benefits for tourism, business and cultural connections.
Athens will become Delta’s 12th unique long-haul destination from Detroit during the peak summer season and its seventh destination in continental Europe.
The route will also make Detroit Delta’s fourth US gateway to the Greek capital. Through Detroit, customers will have connections to more than 40 US destinations, creating a new route to Greece for travelers from across Delta’s domestic network.
Detroit-Athens will operate on an Airbus A330-200 with Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main cabins.
First-Ever Nonstop Service to Paris
The new Detroit and Boston routes will join Delta’s previously announced daily service between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).
The Austin-Paris route will begin on March 27, 2027, marking Austin’s first-ever nonstop service to Paris.
The daily service will provide one-stop access to nearly 70 destinations across Europe, India and Africa through Delta’s partnership with Air France-KLM. The route will operate with an Airbus A330-900neo featuring Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main.
The Austin route gives Delta another US gateway to its European network while expanding access to Paris for customers traveling from Central Texas.
Longer Seasonal Service
Delta is also extending its European travel season in 2027. Several popular routes will begin earlier in the spring, while others will continue deeper into the fall and winter.
Seasonal service from Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) and Detroit (DTW) to Rome will begin in early March. Seattle-Rome service will return in April.
New York JFK service to Catania, Porto, Prague and Copenhagen will also return earlier in the year. Delta will similarly bring back Boston-Barcelona, Seattle-Barcelona and Atlanta-Edinburgh service earlier than in previous schedules.
Several routes will also receive increased or extended service.
Detroit-Rome will operate daily when service resumes, while New York-JFK-Copenhagen will also operate daily when it returns.
Cincinnati-Paris service will continue 3 times weekly from January through March, extending transatlantic flying into the winter period.
More Connectivity Through Delta’s Global Partnerships
Delta’s route expansion extends beyond the nonstop destinations named in the new schedule. Partnerships with Air France, KLM, Virgin Atlantic and other airlines allow customers to connect to hundreds of European destinations.
The Austin-Paris route demonstrates the value of this network structure. Customers can use Paris as a connecting point for nearly 70 destinations across Europe, India and Africa through the Air France-KLM partnership.
For Boston and Detroit, the new services also combine nonstop access with onward connections through Delta’s wider U.S. network. Boston-Venice will connect passengers with nearly 20 U.S. destinations, while Detroit-Athens will provide access to more than 40 U.S. destinations through Detroit.
Aircraft and Cabin Options on New Routes
Delta will operate all three new long-haul routes with Airbus widebody aircraft.
The Boston-Venice service will use an Airbus A330-300, while Detroit-Athens will operate with an Airbus A330-200. Austin-Paris will use an Airbus A330-900neo.
Each aircraft will feature Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main, giving customers several cabin options on the new transatlantic services.
Delta’s 2027 Europe Expansion Means
Delta’s 2027 schedule combines new destinations, additional frequencies and longer seasonal operations across key US gateways.
The three new Europe routes are Boston-Venice, Detroit-Athens and Austin-Paris. At the same time, earlier seasonal launches and extended service on existing routes will increase opportunities for spring, summer and fall travel.
The changes strengthen Delta’s presence in Boston and Detroit, establish Austin as a new nonstop gateway to Paris, expand access to Italy and Greece, and provide broader connections across Europe through Delta’s airline partnerships.
