AUCKLAND– Air New Zealand (NZ) has revealed the first images and details of its redesigned Boeing 777-300ER cabins, marking the airline’s next major investment in long-haul passenger experience.
The upgrade program will introduce new Business Premier and Economy interiors, bringing the Boeing 777 fleet closer to the cabin standard already being introduced on the carrier’s retrofitted Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
The announcement comes as the Auckland Airport (AKL)-based airline continues modernizing its international fleet while extending the operational life of its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
The first aircraft is scheduled to enter retrofit in March 2027 before returning to commercial service in May 2027, offering travelers a more consistent onboard experience across Air New Zealand’s long-haul network.

Business Premier Cabin Upgrade Program
The redesigned Business Premier cabin will feature 44 Collins Elevation seats, maintaining the existing seat count while significantly enhancing passenger privacy and comfort.
Unlike the airline’s current layout, the new configuration adopts a reverse herringbone arrangement with all seats facing forward.
Each suite will include a sliding privacy door, transforming the premium cabin into a more modern product aligned with current industry standards.
Center seats will feature movable privacy dividers, allowing couples or colleagues to travel together while retaining flexibility for solo travelers.
Passengers will also receive 43-inch pitch lie-flat beds, 18-inch inflight entertainment displays with Bluetooth audio connectivity, and both USB-A and USB-C charging options.
According to Air New Zealand, the updated product mirrors many of the features already being introduced on its refurbished Boeing 787-9 fleet while creating a more uniform premium experience across international services.

Economy Upgrades Enhance Comfort
Economy Class will also receive a comprehensive refresh with newly designed ZIM ergonomic seats and upgraded entertainment technology.
The refreshed cabin will accommodate 246 passengers, two more than the current configuration. Travelers will be able to choose Economy Stretch seats with 35-inch pitch or standard Economy seats offering between 31 and 32 inches of pitch.
Every seat will feature a 13-inch entertainment screen equipped with Bluetooth audio support, allowing passengers to pair their own wireless headphones. USB-C charging ports will also be installed throughout the Economy cabin to support modern personal devices.
Air New Zealand confirmed that Premium Economy will remain largely unchanged because the cabin recently underwent its own refurbishment program, including new seat covers and updated curtains.

Air New Zealand’s Boeing 777-300ER Fleet Strategy
The retrofit represents more than a cosmetic cabin refresh. Air New Zealand says the investment will help reduce maintenance demands associated with aging interiors while enabling the Boeing 777-300ER fleet to remain in service for many more years.
The aircraft will continue to carry 342 passengers overall, although the internal layout will change slightly. The airline will reduce Premium Economy capacity by two seats, leaving 52 seats in that cabin, while increasing Economy capacity by two seats to 246, including 16 Skycouch rows.
Chief Customer and Digital Officer Jeremy O’Brien said the airline’s existing cabins have served passengers well since the Boeing 777-300ER entered the fleet in late 2010.
However, evolving customer expectations and the desire for a consistent international product made the latest investment necessary.
Once completed, the refurbishment program will align the Boeing 777 fleet more closely with Air New Zealand’s newest cabin standards while strengthening the airline’s long-term international network strategy.
