HYDERABAD — A major security alert unfolded at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) on Friday after a bomb threat email targeted a Lufthansa (LH) flight operating from Frankfurt Airport (FRA) to Hyderabad.
Authorities immediately activated emergency response procedures after the airline’s customer support reportedly received an email claiming an explosive device had been planted aboard flight LH754.
The aircraft landed safely in Hyderabad before being escorted to an isolation bay for a comprehensive security inspection.
Bomb disposal squads, airport security personnel, and law enforcement agencies conducted anti-sabotage checks on the aircraft, while officials confirmed that no immediate threat had been detected during the initial sweep.

Lufthansa Flight Security Alert At Hyderabad Airport
Airport sources told multiple Indian media outlets that the threatening email warned the device would detonate before the aircraft reached Shamshabad, where Hyderabad’s international airport is located. Security agencies were placed on high alert immediately after the message was received.
After touchdown, the aircraft was isolated away from the passenger terminal in accordance with international aviation security procedures.
Officials deployed bomb disposal teams and conducted a methodical inspection of the cabin, cargo compartments, and passenger baggage.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the threat was credible, although preliminary inspections reportedly found no suspicious object onboard. Investigators are now attempting to trace the origin of the email while aviation security agencies continue additional checks.
The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny over repeated hoax threats targeting flights operating into Hyderabad. In recent months, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has witnessed several similar security scares involving international carriers.

Previous Lufthansa Bomb Threat Cases
This is not the first bomb-threat incident involving Lufthansa’s Frankfurt-Hyderabad operations.
In June 2025, Lufthansa flight LH752, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, was forced to return to Frankfurt after authorities received a bomb threat while the aircraft was en route to India.
According to statements cited by PTI and other publications at the time, Lufthansa said the diversion decision had been taken “out of an abundance of caution” after authorities were informed of a threat posted on social media.
The aircraft later landed safely back in Germany, and passengers were accommodated before resuming their journey the following day.
Hyderabad Airport has also handled a growing number of hoax alerts targeting international flights from carriers including British Airways, Emirates, KLM, and IndiGo.
Cyberabad Police previously confirmed that multiple bomb-threat emails received in late 2025 were ultimately declared hoaxes after extensive screening operations, India Today reported.

Weather Disruptions Affect Hyderabad Operations
Separately, adverse weather conditions disrupted operations at Hyderabad Airport on Friday, compounding the operational challenges caused by the security alert.
Strong winds forced two inbound flights to divert after unsuccessful landing attempts at HYD.
Officials said a Pune-Hyderabad flight diverted to Vijayawada Airport, while an Emirates service arriving from Dubai was rerouted to Bengaluru after both aircraft reportedly attempted to land twice before air traffic controllers directed them to alternate airports.
Airport authorities stated that both the bomb-threat response and weather-related diversions were managed under established aviation safety procedures.
Flight operations at Hyderabad later continued under close monitoring by airport and security officials.
