KOLKATA- IndiGo Airlines (6E) flight operations from Kolkata were disrupted after a bomb threat was discovered onboard before departure, prompting immediate security action.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata (CCU) halted the scheduled departure to Shillong Airport (SHL), and passengers were safely deboarded while checks began.

IndiGo Flight Crew Found Bomb Threat
An IndiGo flight scheduled to depart Kolkata for Shillong on the morning of 14 February 2026 was moved to the airport’s isolation bay after crew members discovered a handwritten bomb threat note inside the aircraft lavatory during boarding.
The flight, scheduled to depart at 9:15 AM, did not take off as airport authorities immediately activated emergency security procedures. All passengers were safely removed from the aircraft as a precautionary measure.
Airport officials confirmed that specialized security teams began inspection procedures soon after the threat was detected. Standard protocols require isolation of the aircraft, evacuation of passengers, and a full search operation before any clearance is granted.
As of the latest update, agencies continued detailed checks to ensure passenger safety and rule out any actual threat.

IndiGo Confirms Security Protocol Activation
IndiGo confirmed the incident in an official statement, noting that the airline immediately informed authorities and followed all Standard Operating Procedures.
The airline emphasized that safety and security remain its highest priority. IndiGo also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers but stated that precautionary measures are necessary in such situations.
The airline cooperated fully with the airport and security agencies throughout the investigation process.

Similar Bomb Threat
A comparable incident occurred on 23 January 2026 involving an IndiGo flight operating between Delhi and Pune. A handwritten threat note was also discovered onboard after landing.
Following standard protocol, passengers were deboarded, and the aircraft was moved to an isolation bay. Security agencies, including the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, conducted extensive checks.
No suspicious objects were found, and the aircraft was later cleared for normal operations. Authorities confirmed that operations resumed without further disruption.
Such incidents underline the strict aviation security procedures enforced across Indian airports to protect passengers and crew.
Aviation Security Procedures in Such Threat Cases
Whenever a threat is reported, airports follow a structured response plan that includes:
- Moving aircraft to isolation areas
- Safe evacuation of passengers and crew
- Detailed inspection by bomb disposal units
- Coordination among the airport, airline, and security agencies
- Clearance only after complete verification
These measures aim to prevent panic while ensuring operational safety.
