NEW YORK— Fort Worth-based American Airlines (AA) is expanding its international network with a new seasonal route from New York (JFK) to Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI), launching March 8, 2026. The service will provide travelers with more options to explore Scotland’s capital and connect easily to Europe.
After a strong summer performance on its Philadelphia (PHL)–Edinburgh (EDI) route, the airline will now link the Big Apple directly with the Scottish capital using its new Airbus A321XLR aircraft, known for range efficiency and an upgraded onboard experience.

The new New York (JFK)–Edinburgh (EDI) service marks American Airlines’ seventh transatlantic route addition for the 2026 summer schedule.
Operating through October 24, 2026, the route complements American’s existing Philadelphia (PHL)–Edinburgh (EDI) service, offering travelers more flexibility when planning European trips.
According to Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, the A321XLR enables the airline to open new long-haul markets that were previously unreachable with smaller aircraft.

Tickets for the new route will be available from November 3 via the official website of AA and the American Airlines mobile app.

The A321XLR will debut domestically between New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX) on December 18, 2025, before entering transatlantic service in March 2026. This initial rollout allows pilots and cabin crews to complete training and fine-tune in-flight operations.
