NEVADA- On March 18, 2024, ca350 photographed Allegiant Air’s (G4) inaugural Boeing 737 MAX at Seattle-Boeing Field (SEA) as it underwent preparations for its functional flight check.
The aircraft, bearing the model 737-8-200 and registration N810MG (68001), was the subject of the capture.
Allegiant 737 MAX Delivery Update
In January 2022, Allegiant ordered 50 737 MAX aircraft, comprising 30 737-7s and 20 737-8-200s. Initially, the airline aimed to receive its initial MAX delivery in 2023.
However, this has been postponed to the current year due to Boeing’s complications. Originally, Allegiant anticipated having 34 MAX aircraft in its fleet by the year’s end, but now this number is expected to be no more than twelve.
Allegiant Air has rebounded from what it refers to as its lowest operational point in the industry in 2022 and is now aiming for further enhancements in the coming years.
During Aviation Week Network’s Routes Americas 2024 conference in Bogotá, Allegiant President Greg Anderson acknowledged that in 2022, the airline fell short of operational expectations. He mentioned that irregular operations (IROP) costs surpassed $130 million, impacting the margin by about four points.
10-12 MAX this Year
With 24 bases across the United States facilitating approximately 500 scheduled routes during peak summer, Allegiant Air foresees the potential for an additional 1,400 routes incrementally over the next decade.
Despite aiming to expand its fleet to 200 aircraft within the next five to six years, the airline’s plans are hindered by delivery delays affecting the introduction of the Boeing 737 MAX, a new fleet type for the all-Airbus operator.
Presently, Allegiant operates a fleet of 121 Airbus A320-family aircraft, as reported by Aviation Week Network’s Fleet Discovery database.
Of the 50 firm orders for the 737 MAX, Allegiant anticipates receiving 10 this year, possibly up to 12, with the initial delivery expected within a month. This number is lower than the 24 originally scheduled for delivery.
Allegiant President Greg Anderson said they anticipate having three MAX aircraft in service by the end of July. Ongoing discussions with Boeing regarding the 2024 delivery schedule are underway to ensure a smooth process, with active engagement to determine the subsequent steps.
