BENGALURU- Air India (AI) and Tata Advanced Systems are set to invest Rs 2,300 crore in various projects in Karnataka, with the potential to generate 1,650 jobs.
Executives from Tata Group companies formalized this agreement by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka state government in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Industries Minister MB Patil.
Tata Air India MRO
Air India has proposed the establishment of a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in the state, with a planned investment of Rs 1,300 crore. The aim is to designate Bengaluru as its MRO hub in southern India, potentially resulting in the addition of 1,200 jobs.
According to a study conducted by the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), the establishment of this center is anticipated to contribute to an increase of eight million annual passengers.
This growth is expected to create opportunities for both direct and indirect employment, benefiting approximately 26,000 individuals.
The surge in employment is attributed to heightened business activity, the necessity for support staff, and an upswing in tourism.
Aerospace, Defense, and Military Manufacturing
Additionally, Tata Advanced Systems, a company specializing in aerospace manufacturing, military engineering, and defense technology, has outlined three projects with a combined investment of Rs 1,030 crore.
The three initiatives encompass the establishment of a passenger-to-freighter aircraft conversion facility with an investment of Rs 420 crore, a gun manufacturing facility requiring an investment of Rs 310 crore, and an aerospace and defense research and development center with an investment of Rs 300 crore.
These projects collectively aim to generate approximately 450 jobs.
Tata Advanced Systems is committed to sourcing over 50% of the 13,000 parts for its gun manufacturing facility from suppliers within Karnataka. This strategy is anticipated to create employment opportunities for approximately 3,000 individuals spread across around 350 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Tata Advanced Systems is known for producing cargo and bulk cargo doors for Airbus’ A320neo family of aircraft.
The event witnessed the presence of Chief Secretary Rajneesh Goyal, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) LK Atheeq, Principal Secretary, Industries Gunjan Krishna, Air India Chief Commercial Officer Nipur Aggarwal, Tata Advanced Systems MD Sukaran Singh, and Bangalore International Airport MD Hari Marar.
