FLORIDA- A Spirit Airlines (NK) passenger has become the subject of much amusement after being observed wearing a parachute during a flight — with many spectators humorously suggesting it might be a wise decision considering the seemingly tumultuous nature of the budget carrier.
A TikTok video capturing this seemingly excessive precaution has garnered over 1.6 million views. The video, uploaded by the passenger’s wife, Kagan Brooks, includes a text overlay stating, “Not my husband bringing his parachute on Spirit Airlines just in case [laughing emoji].”
Spirit Airlines Passenger Brings Parachute
The accompanying footage depicts her husband, named Brandon, boarding the flight with a camouflage-patterned parachute pack securely fastened to his back.
Casually, he proceeds to place the package into the overhead bin, and interestingly, his fellow passengers exhibit no noticeable reaction.
In the accompanying caption, Brooks mentioned that she found the situation amusing and was “laughing out loud the entire time.”
Mix Reviews
The TikTok community displayed a mix of amusement and surprising approval for her husband’s unconventional choice of carry-on.
“If they managed to open the door, everybody would be fighting for that parachute,” asserted one observer.
Another comment read, “Probably the smartest idea I’ve ever seen. This would help me with any plane anxiety in a way.”
Several individuals humorously suggested that Brandon might be prepared to deploy the parachute should any chaos ensue on the budget carrier, often associated with disorderly conduct, altercations, and other in-flight antics.
“Checks out. Smart man,” quipped one TikTok user in reference to Spirit Airlines, while another added, “You are on Spirit. You need a parachute, a bible, and a lot of hope.”
However, contrary to what several perceptive viewers may have suspected, her video was intended as a jest: Her husband wasn’t carrying the parachute as a safety measure but rather for recreational use at his destination.
In a subsequent video, Brooks clarified, “My husband was bringing his rig to Miami so he could go skydiving there. I thought people understood humor, but the comment section says otherwise.”
Furthermore, as pointed out by one commenter, “You can’t jump out of a commercial plane” with that equipment.
Fortunately, this doesn’t mean people can’t bring these safety umbrellas aboard for other purposes like the aforementioned.
