FORT WORTH- American Airlines (AA) is expanding its nonstop international operations in 2024, solidifying its unique network. The airline will introduce a new service to Tulum, Mexico (TQO) in the coming spring, providing travelers access to ancient ruins, mystical cenotes, diverse landscapes, and white-sand beaches.
Additionally, American has submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to be the sole U.S. carrier operating nonstop flights between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND).

American Airlines Mexico, Japan Flights
Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, expressed,
“American continues to enhance our comprehensive global network with more nonstops to destinations our customers want to visit. With more flights to Tulum from the U.S. than any other airline, American will offer convenient nationwide connectivity to this popular vacation gem on the Riviera Maya.”
Applied for New York to Tokyo Haneda
American Airlines has formally applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for approval to introduce daytime service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND).
If the application is approved, American plans to operate this new service year-round with a daily frequency.
The proposed flight aims to complement the existing frequencies provided by American’s partner, Japan Airlines, ensuring more convenient arrival and departure times in New York City and facilitating optimal connections across Japan and Asia with a single stop in Tokyo.
Notably, American’s application stands out as the sole accretive service proposed by a U.S. carrier between the United States and Japan.
Molly Wilkinson, American’s Vice President of Regulatory and International Government Affairs, expressed the airline’s anticipation, stating,
“American looks forward to presenting our competitive application to provide new and enhanced service to Tokyo’s convenient Haneda Airport. This will be the only nonstop service from JFK to Tokyo operated by a U.S. airline. Joining American’s existing flights from Dallas-Fort Worth and Los Angeles, JFK to Tokyo service adds an East Coast gateway for flights to Haneda while offering the largest metropolitan area in the U.S. more options for travel to one of the most important business hubs in the world.”

New Flights to Tulum
Commencing on March 28, American Airlines is set to provide four daily nonstop flights to Tulum (TQO). This new service will connect seamlessly with over 200 destinations, ensuring unmatched nationwide accessibility to the Riviera Maya.
The introduction of flights to Tulum expands on American’s robust winter operations to the nearby Cancun (CUN), where the airline serves up to 40 peak-day departures to 18 U.S. destinations.
The flights to Tulum will be operated using Boeing 737 aircraft, equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, extensive streaming entertainment, and in-seat power options for all passengers.
In the upcoming summer, American Airlines will enhance its offerings to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
Boasting a selection of over 90 destinations, American provides the largest array of nonstop choices for travelers seeking new adventures next summer. Commencing on June 5, 2024, American will augment its service on various routes throughout the region.
