DELHI- Zooom Airlines, formerly known as Zoom Air, has successfully obtained its air operator certificate (AOC) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), signaling its readiness to commence flight operations in India.
The airline announced this development on Friday (September 15, 2023).
Zooom Air AOC Renewed
Zooom Airlines’ CEO, Atul Gambhir, expressed his enthusiasm about the AOC, stating, “With our AOC in hand, we look forward to providing passengers with a top-notch travel experience that combines convenience, efficiency, and comfort.”
The Indian regional airline, originally established as Zexus Air in April 2013, initially acquired a Bombardier CRJ200 aircraft and launched its operations in February 2017.
However, the airline struggled to attract significant air passenger traffic, and it faced safety concerns that led to the suspension of its air operator certificate by the DGCA in July 2018, lasting for over a year.
By adopting a new name, the airline intends to establish a fresh brand identity and enhance the overall passenger experience, according to industry experts.
Bombardier CRJ200 Operator
The company, headquartered in Gurugram, plans to utilize its Bombardier CRJ200 aircraft for its flight operations.
Atul Gambhir, CEO of the airline, emphasized the aircraft’s capability to provide domestic travelers with exceptional speed on each route, catering to the needs of frequent flyers who seek comfortable and reliable travel.
Zooom Airlines aims to offer a “cost-effective” and “convenient” solution for regional travel within the growing Indian aviation market.
In August, domestic air traffic in India reached 12.4 million passengers, representing a 5% increase compared to the pre-pandemic level of 11.8 million passengers in August 2019.
Gambhir expressed confidence in the airline’s ability to carve out a niche in the market by delivering a unique and innovative travel experience.
Currently, the Indian aviation market features two active regional carriers, Fly Big (S9) and Star Air (S5), with market shares of 0.2% and 0.3%, respectively, in the domestic civil aviation market.
