SINGAPORE- Flag carrier Singapore Airlines (SQ) will make history as the first international flight to touch down at Terminal 2 (T2) of Bengaluru Airport (BLR) on August 31.
Sources from Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) have confirmed that the departure from Changi Airport (SIN) will take place at 8:50 am (Singapore time) on August 31.
The aircraft is scheduled to arrive at Kempegowda International Airport at 10:55 am on the same day, with a flight duration of four hours and 35 minutes.
Singapore Airlines Bengaluru T2 Operations
BIAL announced on August 21, stating, “We are pleased to inform you that starting at 10:45 am on August 31, 2023, all regularly scheduled international flights will be arriving and departing from Terminal 2.”
Originally, BIAL had planned to initiate international operations on September 1, but the decision has been made to bring it forward by a day.
In an exclusive conversation with Moneycontrol, Hari Marar, the Managing Director and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), which manages Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), revealed, “Terminal 2 will exclusively handle international operations, while Terminal 1 (T1) will be dedicated to domestic flights.”
T2, fondly referred to as a “terminal in a garden,” commenced its operations for domestic flights on January 15, 2023.
As it prepares to open its doors for international operations on August 31, 2023, global travelers passing through Bengaluru Airport can anticipate an array of improved amenities.
These enhancements encompass upgraded baggage drop facilities, a more efficient immigration process, and the introduction of additional duty-free shops, restaurants, and lounges.

Inspired by Bengaluru’s reputation as the ‘Garden City,’ the terminal at Kempegowda International Airport showcases a design that captures the essence of its surroundings.
According to Airport Technology, the terminal’s initial phase spans four levels and encompasses a built-up area of 255,661m². Subsequently, Passengers embark on a unique journey through over 10,000m² of green walls, hanging gardens, and outdoor spaces.
One of the notable features is the expansive indoor garden adorned with rammed-earth walls, waterfalls, and hanging planted bells. Subsequently, the lush area serves as an entry point to the bustling retail section.
The forest belt, a three-storeyed outdoor space nestled between the main terminal and boarding gates, offers a refreshing experience for travelers, complemented by its connection to the shopping area.
This natural oasis is visible from various indoor spaces and adds to the terminal’s ambiance. An open call for proposals was announced for a monumental sculpture to be situated within the forest belt.
The terminal boasts walls made of brick, floors adorned with natural terrazzo, and an engineered bamboo ceiling, creating a contemporary and timeless aesthetic.
In addition, an expansive outdoor garden, situated around a lagoon, serves as a plant nursery for maintenance purposes and is connected to Terminal 1 and the airport hotel through elevated walkways.
