AUSTRALIA- In a clear indication of the sustained demand for travel to HongKong, Qantas (QF) has announced reintroducing its Airbus A380 aircraft on the Sydney Hong Kong route.
Starting from October 2023 and lasting until March 2024. The passengers will once again have the opportunity to experience the A380 on this popular route.
Qantas Brings back A380 on Sydney HongKong
Currently, the presence of the superjumbo aircraft on the 9+ hour route between Sydney and Hong Kong is intermittent. However, it will be temporarily withdrawn and substituted with an Airbus A330 starting in early June.
This change is in preparation for the resumption of Melbourne-Hong Kong flights on June 20. Notably, the Qantas Hong Kong Lounge, which has recently reopened, will extend its operating hours to accommodate the departure of QF30, the flight to Melbourne scheduled for 10 pm.
Following a pattern reminiscent of pre-pandemic times, Qantas is set to reintroduce the Sydney-Hong Kong superjumbo. Qantas prepares for the high-demand travel season, spanning from the Australian summer to Chinese New Year and beyond.
Starting from Sunday, October 29, the Qantas A380 will resume operations on most days of the week. Specifically flights QF127/QF1287 until the end of December. However, there will be some exceptions on Mondays and Wednesdays, where an A330 aircraft will be deployed instead of the A380.
Starting from January 1, the Sydney-Hong Kong route will witness a daily A380 service deployment until March 3, 2024.
As of now, the aircraft operating during this period is expected to be an A380 in its original ‘classic’ configuration. Further, it is distinct from the upgraded versions. The business class cabin will feature Skybed berths arranged in a 2-2-2 layout.
Free First Class Upgrade
Instead of implementing a complete first-class service on the Sydney-Hong Kong route during the approximately 18 weeks when the A380 is operational, Qantas will offer top-tier frequent flyers in the business class the option to choose a first-class suite at the front of the aircraft.
These passengers will enjoy the same meals, wine, and service as other business class travelers. But in a significantly more comfortable setting.
When selecting a seat on the A380, passengers can choose the first-class cabin by clicking on any seat between row 1 and row 5. There they will be assigned one of the 14 luxurious first-class suites.
