CSMIA Foreigners blunder
Two international passengers swapped spots and boarded flights to different destinations after allegedly exchanging passports at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
According to a statement made on Thursday, they were taken into custody by the Mumbai Police. An airport restroom is where the conversation between a German and a Sri Lankan native took place.
According to a PTI story, the German national, 36, was supposed to have flown to Kathmandu but instead used the 22-year-old Sri Lankan citizen’s passport to go to London. The Sri Lankan traveler was deported back to Mumbai after being apprehended upon arrival in the UK.
He told the police during questioning that he wanted to move to the UK for better job chances. The news source added that he revealed his true identity to airport authorities in London.
The German national who held the boarding card for the flight to Kathmandu was also detained by the authorities.
Sri Lankan citizen passport looked
The travelers came up with the idea to switch their boarding tickets on April 9, according to the investigation, which showed they were staying in a posh hotel close to the airport in Mumbai at the time. The information was discovered when questioning the two foreigners.
The first indication of a discrepancy was when a flight attendant for a commercial airline saw that the Sri Lankan citizen’s passport looked to have a fake departure stamp.
Additionally, the officer stated it was discovered that the departure stamp number on his passport and the stamp number on his boarding permit were different.
The Sahar police have charged two individuals with cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. Furthermore, the authorities are looking into whether there were further parties involved in the crime.
