After thunderstorms pummelling major airports on the East Coast on Thursday, one of the worst days for flight cancellations in the previous six weeks, Saturday marked the third day of significant travel cancellations.
US Airlines flight cancellations due to bad weather
As a result of personnel issues, bad weather, and air traffic control holdups, this summer’s travel season has been rife with flight cancellations and delays.
At least 636 flights into, within, or out of the United States had been cancelled as of Saturday night, while an additional 5,921 domestic flights had been delayed.

“we continue to work through a range of weather-related problems this weekend across the country. To deliver our customers to their destinations as swiftly and safely as possible, our personnel are working.”

The US Department of Transportation on Wednesday recommended broadening the circumstances under which airline passengers are eligible for reimbursements in response to the rush of flight cancellations and a deluge of complaints from travelers.
Since the start of the Covid-19 outbreak, the government claimed it had received a deluge of complaints from airline passengers wanting refunds.
Following a private meeting with airline CEOs in June, when Pete Buttigieg urged them to improve the summer travel schedules that tens of thousands of cancellations have plagued, the suggested refund policies were announced.
