ZURICH- SWISS (LX) will introduce its Airbus A350-900 on the Zurich Airport (ZRH) to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) route from December 15, 2026, extending the reach of its new SWISS Senses cabin to another major long-haul destination. The aircraft will initially operate daily flights to Mumbai until January 3, 2027, before the airline reduces the frequency to six flights per week from January 4.
The deployment will give passengers travelling between Switzerland and India access to the airline’s latest long-haul cabin across First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class. SWISS plans to operate the A350 on the route until the end of the 2026/27 winter schedule in March 2027, although the arrangement remains a planned aircraft assignment rather than a permanent change.

SWISS’ A350 Deployment to Mumbai
The aircraft will operate daily between Zurich and Mumbai from December 15 through January 3, covering the busy Christmas and New Year travel period.
From January 4, SWISS will reduce the A350-operated service to six weekly flights, with the aircraft remaining on the route until the end of the winter timetable.
The expansion became possible through the planned arrival of another Airbus A350-900, registered HB-IFD, in November 2026. This will become the airline’s fourth aircraft of the type and provide additional capacity for expanding its long-haul A350 operations.
Mumbai will join Johannesburg and Shanghai as destinations receiving the A350 during the winter schedule.
SWISS has already introduced the aircraft on its Zurich-Johannesburg route, while selected Zurich-Shanghai services also feature the new-generation aircraft.
The airline is expanding its A350 fleet as part of a wider long-haul modernization programme. SWISS plans to introduce a total of 10 Airbus A350-900s by 2030, replacing older aircraft and improving the efficiency of its intercontinental operations.

New SWISS Senses Cabin Aboard A350-900
The Airbus A350-900 features SWISS Senses, the airline’s redesigned long-haul cabin product. The experience covers First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class, with updated seating, passenger amenities and onboard services.
The new cabin is intended to provide a more consistent experience across the aircraft’s four classes.
First Class features private suites, while Business Class introduces more personalized seating options and enhanced privacy. Premium Economy focuses on additional personal space, while Economy includes wider seats and improved comfort features.
Passengers travelling between Zurich and Mumbai will therefore have an opportunity to experience the updated product without relying on the airline’s older long-haul aircraft.
However, the planned aircraft assignment does not guarantee that every individual departure will operate with an A350, as operational changes can result in aircraft substitutions.

A330 Fleet Modernization for SWISS
Alongside the A350 introduction, SWISS is also upgrading its existing Airbus A330-300 fleet with the SWISS Senses cabin.
The first A330 is currently undergoing refurbishment in Hong Kong, marking the beginning of a wider retrofit programme covering all 14 aircraft.
The airline expects to complete the A330 cabin modernization by mid-2028.
After the A330 programme, SWISS also plans to introduce the new cabin product on its Boeing 777 fleet, although it has not provided a specific completion schedule for those aircraft, Aero Telegraph reported.
