DUBAI– The UK government has warned British travellers about the risk of renewed military escalation in the Middle East, raising concerns over potential flight cancellations and airspace closures ahead of the winter travel season. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) says the regional security situation remains unpredictable, with further attacks potentially disrupting commercial aviation.
The warning comes as Dubai, one of the region’s major international aviation hubs, remains exposed to wider regional security developments. Although the UK has not advised against travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), its guidance urges travellers to monitor developments closely and prepare for changes to their itineraries.

UK Travel Warning Explained
The FCDO’s travel advice for the UAE highlights the possibility of further attacks and unforeseen escalation following hostilities involving Iran and other regional actors.
Its guidance warns British nationals across the Middle East to prepare for flight cancellations, temporary airspace closures and other travel disruptions.
The UK government advises travellers to follow local authorities’ instructions, monitor international news and check airport information before departing. It also recommends keeping departure plans under review and ensuring that travel documents remain valid.
These precautions are particularly relevant to passengers with connecting flights through Gulf hubs, where changes to airspace availability could affect services beyond the immediate conflict zone.
Travellers heading to Dubai should therefore check directly with their airlines for schedule changes before leaving for the airport.

Dubai Airport Risks
Dubai International Airport (DXB) serves as a major transfer point for international passengers travelling between Europe, Asia, Africa and other destinations. Disruptions affecting the UAE or neighbouring countries could create operational challenges for airlines, even when flights to Dubai remain available.
Regional tensions have already raised concerns about the security of civilian aviation infrastructure.
The US Department of State’s October 23, 2026, travel advisory for the UAE cites armed conflict and terrorism risks, including hostilities involving Iran-backed Houthi forces and attacks on civilian airports in Saudi Arabia.
The US advisory also notes that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued aviation-related restrictions or notices concerning risks in and around the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.
Such warnings highlight the importance of monitoring official aviation notices alongside airline updates when planning travel through the region.
However, the UK and US advisories are not identical. While Washington has classified the UAE under Level 3, advising Americans to reconsider travel, the UK has not issued a general recommendation against visiting the country.

Advice for Winter Travellers
The latest guidance does not mean that all flights to Dubai will be cancelled or that a new military offensive is inevitable. Instead, it reflects uncertainty surrounding the regional security situation and the potential consequences for international transport.
Travellers should check their flight status before departure, confirm their airline’s rebooking policies and review travel insurance coverage for disruption-related expenses.
Passengers connecting through other Middle Eastern airports should also monitor conditions across their entire itinerary rather than focusing solely on their final destination.
The FCDO recommends following local authority instructions and staying informed through official travel advice.
With winter travel approaching, passengers planning trips to Dubai should remain flexible and be prepared for short-notice changes if regional tensions affect airspace or airline operations.
