CALGARY— WestJet (WS), Canada’s second-largest airline, has removed 13 international destinations from its network during 2026 as it reshapes its schedule across Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America and the United States.
The changes include the complete suspension of its Cuba network and the planned end of Calgary (YYC)–Guadalajara (GDL) service.
The network reductions affect several markets that had recently launched or returned to WestJet’s schedule. The airline has also cited elevated fuel costs and capacity adjustments as it works to align flying with demand.

WestJet Cuts Europe Routes Significantly
WestJet ended three European markets in September 2026: Copenhagen, Denmark; Glasgow, UK; and Madrid, Spain.
The airline operated Halifax (YHZ)–Copenhagen and Halifax–Madrid, while Toronto Pearson (YYZ)–Glasgow returned in May before ending after the summer season.
The European changes are also reflected in WestJet’s 2027 schedule, with all three routes removed from the planned Northern Summer 2027 network.
The airline launched Halifax–Copenhagen in May 2026, while Glasgow represented another return to a market it had previously served.
WestJet’s European network remains active despite the cuts, including service to Edinburgh, leaving Scotland with a remaining WestJet gateway.

Seven Cuba Destinations Now Removed
Cuba accounts for seven of the 13 international destinations removed from WestJet’s network: Cayo Coco, Cienfuegos, Cayo Largo del Sur, Havana, Holguín, Santa Clara and Varadero.
WestJet began winding down its Cuban operations in February after fuel shortages and disruptions to essential services affected the operating environment.
The airline later announced an indefinite suspension of all flights to Cuba, confirming that services would remain suspended until further notice.
Several of the affected Cuban markets had been part of WestJet’s network for many years. Cayo Coco, Holguín and Varadero had been served since 2009, while Santa Clara joined the network in 2010.
The remaining cuts include San Andrés Island, Colombia, which ended in March, and Lihue, Hawaii, which ended in April. Together with the seven Cuban destinations and three European markets, these changes account for 12 of the 13 international destinations.

Guadalajara Route Ends After October
Guadalajara is the final destination on the list. WestJet’s Calgary–Guadalajara route began on December 7, 2025, as part of the airline’s expansion from its Calgary hub.
The service is scheduled to operate for the final time on October 18, 2026. Flight WS2278 is scheduled to leave Calgary at 9:20 a.m. for Guadalajara, while WS2279 returns at 3:25 p.m., with a Boeing 737-800 planned for the final rotation, Simple Flying reported.
WestJet’s 2026 international withdrawals therefore span 13 destinations across four major regions, showing a significant reshaping of its network while the carrier continues to adjust capacity and respond to operating costs.
