DOHA- Qatar Airways (QR) is set to operate its Airbus A350-900 on the 80-nautical-mile route between Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Bahrain International Airport (BAH) on August 12 and 13, 2026.
The temporary deployment will create the world’s shortest bookable Airbus A350 service in 2026, according to current schedule data.
The route covers about 92 statute miles (148 kilometers) each way based on the great-circle distance, although the actual flight path will be longer because of departure, arrival, and routing requirements.
Qatar Airways normally uses smaller aircraft on the short regional sector, making the A350 assignment an unusual capacity adjustment.
Qatar Airways to Fly A350 to Bahrain
Qatar Airways plans one A350-900 round trip between Doha and Bahrain on each of the two days.
Flight QR1102 is scheduled to leave Doha at 1:00 p.m. and arrive in Bahrain at 1:55 p.m., while the return service, QR1103, is scheduled to depart at 3:25 p.m. and reach Doha at 4:20 p.m.
The A350-900 assigned to the route has 283 seats, giving Qatar Airways significantly more capacity than the A320 aircraft normally used on the sector.
The airline generally operates three daily flights between Doha and Bahrain, with the A320ceo serving as its lowest-capacity aircraft at around 132 seats.
The schedule change comes as Qatar Airways adjusts aircraft assignments on the route. The A350 operation will therefore provide additional capacity on a sector where widebody aircraft remain relatively uncommon, Simple Flying flagged.
World’s Shortest A350
The Doha-Bahrain service will replace Doha-Dammam as Qatar Airways’ shortest A350 operation.
The Dammam route covers approximately 122 nautical miles (226 kilometers) each way, making the new Bahrain sector about 42 nautical miles shorter.
The Bahrain service will also take the title of the world’s shortest bookable A350 operation in 2026.
A shorter A350 sector exists between Bonaire and Curaçao, operated by Corendon Dutch Airlines using a leased aircraft, but those flights are not sold as standalone services and therefore do not qualify for the same distinction.
Qatar Airways has a history of using widebody aircraft on short regional flights when network requirements or capacity changes make such assignments useful.
Schedule data shows that the airline has used the A350 on the Doha-Bahrain route intermittently, but the aircraft remains far less common there than narrowbody types.
Short Route, Widebody Jet
The unusual aircraft assignment highlights how airlines can deploy large aircraft on short sectors to manage capacity rather than flight distance.
Qatar Airways operates a broad fleet that includes the A320 family alongside its A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft, allowing it to adjust capacity across its network.
The Doha-Bahrain flights also provide convenient timing for passengers connecting through Doha to destinations elsewhere in the Middle East and Asia.
However, the A350 deployment is currently limited to August 12 and 13, making the 80-nautical-mile service a short-lived but notable feature of Qatar Airways’ 2026 schedule.
