MANILA- An American passenger and an Israeli passenger were detained after a physical altercation at Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in the Philippines before boarding a domestic flight to Cebu. Authorities said both men were taken into custody following the incident.

American and Israeli Travelers Face Legal Action After Airport Altercation
The incident took place on Thursday, August 6, inside the domestic departure area of Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL), one of the Philippines’ busiest airports. The two passengers were preparing to travel from Manila to Cebu when an argument escalated into a fight near the departure gate.
According to local media reports, the Israeli passenger confronted the American traveler after allegedly overhearing him making antisemitic comments. Witnesses claimed the American mocked the Israeli man’s Jewish faith, referred to him as a “baby killer,” praised Adolf Hitler, and expressed regret that more Jews had not been killed during the Holocaust.
The American passenger reportedly defended himself by claiming that he had been engaged in a private conversation and did not intend the remarks for others. However, the comments allegedly triggered a heated exchange that quickly became physical, ViewfromtheWing flagged.

Both Passengers Detained and Referred for Prosecution
Following the altercation, airport police escorted both passengers into custody and transported them to Pasay General Hospital for medical evaluation.

The fight also disrupted the travel plans of both men, preventing them from completing their scheduled journey from Manila to Cebu.

Witness accounts indicate the confrontation began after the Israeli passenger heard repeated antisemitic statements allegedly directed toward Jewish people.
According to local reporting, the comments went beyond criticism of current political events and instead targeted the passenger’s Jewish identity. Witnesses alleged that the American praised Hitler and made statements expressing support for the Holocaust, while also calling the Israeli traveler a “baby killer.”
Authorities have not publicly released surveillance footage or additional evidence related to the incident. The prosecutor’s review will determine whether criminal proceedings move forward.
Second Similar Incident Reported in the Philippines Within Days
The airport confrontation came only days after another reported dispute involving an Israeli visitor in the Philippines.
On August 3, local reports stated that a Spanish tourist confronted an Israeli visitor at a café on Siargao Island, where the Israeli was also reportedly called a “baby killer.”
While the two incidents are unrelated and occurred in different locations, they were reported within the same week and both involved verbal confrontations directed at Israeli nationals.
Authorities have not indicated any connection between the two cases.

The Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office will review the circumstances surrounding the airport fight before determining whether formal charges should proceed.
