DUBAI- Emirates (EK) has opened a global pilot recruitment roadshow that begins in Madrid (MAD) on August 6 and runs across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas until February.
The airline has published full tax-free salary figures for Captains, First Officers and candidates on its new fast-track command route, alongside housing, education and relocation details for pilots moving to Dubai (DXB).
Emirates Opens Its Flight Deck to Experienced Pilots
The campaign targets experienced commercial pilots interested in joining the airline’s expanding fleet, including candidates eligible for the new Direct Entry Captain programme.
Emirates recruiters will meet applicants face to face at each stop, walk them through the selection process and answer questions about building a long-term career with one of the world’s largest international airlines.
Each session covers 6 areas: career pathways and progression opportunities, the pilot recruitment and selection process, training pathways and programmes, work schedules, rostering and annual leave, salary packages, benefits and allowances, and what it is like to live and work in the UAE.
The centrepiece of the pitch is the airline’s new Narrowbody to Widebody Direct Entry Captain programme, which gives experienced narrow-body captains a route into command roles on the Emirates widebody fleet.
Why Emirates Needs Pilots Now
The recruitment push is tied directly to fleet growth. Emirates closed its 2025-26 financial year on March 31, 2026, with 277 aircraft in service at an average age of 10.8 years, and an order book of 367 aircraft comprising 54 A350s, 270 Boeing 777Xs, 35 787s and 8 777Fs, with deliveries scheduled through 2038.
The airline took 15 A350 deliveries during the year, lifting its A350 fleet to 19 aircraft serving 21 destinations.
During the same financial year, Emirates ran recruitment campaigns in 215 cities across 90 countries and hired more than 450 pilots, over 4,800 cabin crew and more than 500 engineers and technicians.
The airline has separately outlined plans to recruit around 5,000 pilots over the coming years to crew its widebody expansion, using a mix of cadets trained at the Emirates Flight Training Academy, direct-entry pilots and international recruits.
Training capacity is expanding alongside the fleet. Emirates is adding a further Boeing 777 simulator, an additional A350 simulator and its first Boeing 777-9 simulator, with the 777-9 device scheduled to become operational by mid-2026 to align with the arrival of the first 777X aircraft.

The campaign begins in Spain and Portugal in August before moving through Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa. Confirmed dates are:

The roadshows continue until February, with further stops in Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Requirements for Direct Entry Captains
Pilots applying for command positions on the Airbus fleet must hold ICAO English Level 5 or above, a valid ICAO ATPL and an unrestricted Class 1 medical certificate.
Emirates also requires more than 7,000 total flying hours, a minimum of 150 hours on type in the past 12 months, and Airbus fly-by-wire pilot-in-command experience.
Captain Salary and Package
Emirates structures pilot pay as a tax-free package that combines cash salary with housing, education support, medical cover, insurance and retirement contributions. As reported by Gulf News, the total annual Captain package is valued at AED 1.185 million, or roughly $320,000.

Accelerated Command Programme
The Accelerated Command programme is designed for experienced narrow-body captains who want to progress to command on widebody aircraft.
Applicants need more than 5,000 total flying hours, a valid ICAO ATPL with an unrestricted Class 1 medical certificate, ICAO English Level 5 or higher, and either Airbus fly-by-wire or Boeing pilot-in-command experience. A minimum of 150 hours on type in the past 12 months is also required.

- Monthly take-home pay: AED 37,100 ($10,000), based on 85 flying hours
Accommodation under this stream is a three or four-bedroom villa in an Emirates residential community, valued at up to AED 225,000 ($61,310) including utilities.
Pilots who prefer to buy their own property can take an accommodation allowance instead. Annual leave tickets are issued in economy class and can be upgraded to business class.
First Officer Enhanced Package
Emirates is also recruiting experienced First Officers. Candidates need at least 2,000 total flying hours on qualifying aircraft, current Boeing or Airbus fly-by-wire experience, a valid ICAO ATPL and Class 1 medical certificate, ICAO English Level 4 or above, and 150 hours on type in the past 12 months.
The standard package is:

- Annual take-home cash: AED 385,000 ($105,000)
- Monthly take-home pay: AED 32,100 ($8,750), based on 85 flying hours
An enhanced package is available to pilots who meet additional flying experience requirements:

- Monthly take-home pay: AED 34,600 ($9,600)
First Officers also receive free accommodation with utilities and travel benefits covering themselves and eligible family members.

Benefits Shared Across All Pilot Streams
Every package listed above is tax free and covers salary, housing, education support, medical cover, insurance, annual leave tickets, transport and Provident Fund contributions.
All pilots receive 42 days of annual leave each year, along with confirmed annual leave tickets for themselves and eligible dependants. The cabin class of those tickets varies by rank.
The education allowance applies to children aged 4 to 19 and covers schooling from primary level through to pre-university. Support extends to a maximum of three children.

Pilots join the Provident Fund after 6 months of service. The employer contributes 12 percent of basic monthly salary, and the employee contributes 5 percent. The fund is held by an independent trust based in the Isle of Man.
Health and insurance cover includes medical and dental cover for the employee and family, life and accident insurance, and loss-of-licence insurance support.

Selection Process
Emirates has not published a stage-by-stage breakdown alongside the roadshow announcement. However, industry recruitment guides and accounts from candidates who have completed the process describe a consistent structure.
The pipeline runs across six stages and typically takes four to eight months from application to contract, with the first 4 stages completed remotely and the final two held in Dubai at the airline’s expense.
Applications are submitted through emiratesgroupcareers.com with a CV, passport, ATPL, type rating and Class 1 medical, followed by the COMPASS aptitude test at an authorised centre, a pre-recorded HireVue video interview, and a live panel interview with an Emirates Captain and an HR assessor.
The Dubai phase covers a full-flight simulator assessment lasting roughly 60 to 90 minutes, typically on a Boeing 777 or A380, plus a medical examination and a final management review.
Candidate accounts indicate the simulator session weights crew resource management more heavily than raw handling ability, with the assessor looking for clear briefing, communication and the capacity to correct and adapt during the session.
Emirates applies specific rules on which flight hours count toward its minimums, requiring hours on jet aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of 20 tonnes or above, with both pilot-in-command and second-in-command time qualifying.
Narrow-body jet time on types such as the A320 and 737 counts toward First Officer requirements, and widebody experience is not mandatory for that role.
Living and Flying From Dubai
Relocation forms a large part of the recruitment message. Emirates says pilots can combine long-haul flying with access to destinations across a network covering more than 140 points. Pilots also receive travel benefits and chauffeur-driven airport transfers in Dubai.
The airline runs a single-hub model built entirely around Dubai International Airport, operating an all-widebody fleet across 140-plus destinations in more than 80 countries.
Emirates has no domestic UAE routes, meaning every service operated is an international sector. This structure gives pilots consistent long-haul exposure rather than a mix of short and long sectors.
The airline says the drive is aimed at pilots ready to take the next step in their careers while experiencing the lifestyle and opportunities that come with being based in the UAE.
Sponsored Cadet Route for UAE Nationals
Emirates separately runs a fully sponsored National Cadet Pilot Programme for UAE nationals. The programme covers training costs, accommodation, uniforms and meals, and takes candidates from ground school through to First Officer positions.
Applicants must hold UAE citizenship and a valid Khulasat Al Qaid, be aged between 18 and 26, meet the required academic qualifications, hold an IELTS score of 6.0 and stand at least 160cm tall.
