DUBAI- Emirates (EK) has become the first airline in the world to introduce the U-Dream Headrest, a multi-way adjustable headrest built to give Economy Class passengers full neck and head support during long-haul flights.
Installation is already underway across the fleet based at the carrier’s Dubai (DXB) hub, with the new headrest set to appear on all Airbus A350 aircraft and most of the airline’s Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s.
Emirates Brings Premium-Style Neck Support To Economy Cabins
The U-Dream Headrest forms part of the airline’s Z400 seat, developed by Safran Seats. The leather headrest is padded and fitted with flexible side wings that fold inwards to cradle the head and neck. This design helps travelers hold a stable sleeping position and stops the head from falling forward or to the side.
The headrest also moves vertically and tilts, allowing it to align with passengers of different heights and body types. Emirates has positioned the feature as a way to give Economy Class customers a level of ergonomic support usually found in premium cabins.
The U-Dream Headrest has been independently tested and verified to meet the safety standards of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The leather surface is designed to be wiped down easily and is cleaned after every flight. Cabin crew are trained to help customers adjust the headrest when needed.

Installation Timeline Across The Emirates Fleet
The U-Dream Headrest is currently flying on three A350 aircraft, and Emirates is fitting more as quickly as possible. Working with Safran Seats, the airline plans to install the headrest on all of its A350 aircraft by the end of the year.
The headrest will also come pre-installed on all 270 Boeing 777X aircraft that Emirates has on order.
From 2027, installation will extend to the airline’s retrofitted A380s and Boeing 777s, bringing the feature to a much larger share of the fleet over time.
Part Of A Wider Economy Class Upgrade
The new headrest sits alongside other recent Economy Class improvements. On the latest A350, customers receive 3-3-3 seating, 13.3-inch 4K screens, USB-C charging, higher ceilings and mood lighting, all aimed at helping travelers rest better on long routes.
Emirates is also rolling out Starlink connectivity across its fleet, giving Economy Class passengers fast internet at cruising altitude. The airline reports that customers have already made one million connections to the service.
Its ice entertainment system offers more than 6,500 channels, including content from HBO Max, Disney+, Paramount+ and Spotify.
Complimentary multi-course meals are served on every flight regardless of route length. In the 2026 Best Airline Food and Drinks Survey, Emirates was voted best for Economy Class meals by frequent flyers, adding to its reputation for premium dining in the sky.
The U-Dream Headrest reinforces the airline’s focus on comfort at the back of the aircraft, where most passengers travel. By fitting a feature designed for better sleep at scale, Emirates aims to keep its Economy Class product ahead of rival long-haul carriers.
