KUALA LUMPUR– AirAsia (AK) has officially entered a new phase of its corporate journey after completing the transition from AirAsia X Berhad to AirAsia Group Berhad, marking a major milestone in its long-term growth strategy.
The change became effective on July 2, 2026, following shareholder approval and registration by Malaysia’s Companies Commission, positioning the airline group to pursue its ambition of becoming the world’s first low-cost network carrier.
The announcement reflects more than a corporate rebranding.
Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur (KUL), the newly named AirAsia Group brings together its airline businesses under a single identity, enabling closer integration of operations, a broader route network, and improved connectivity while maintaining the low-cost model that has defined the airline for more than two decades.

AirAsia X Rebrands as AirAsia Group
The new corporate identity follows the successful consolidation of AirAsia’s aviation businesses earlier this year, creating a unified airline platform capable of serving both short- and medium-haul markets more efficiently.
By combining its airlines under one group structure, AirAsia expects to improve network planning, fleet utilization, and operational efficiency.
The integration also strengthens the airline’s ability to offer smoother travel experiences through expanded connections while keeping fares affordable for millions of passengers across Asia and beyond.
The company believes the new structure will provide greater flexibility to respond to rising travel demand, particularly as Asia continues to lead global aviation growth.
A larger combined fleet and an expanded network are expected to support future capacity increases and improve connectivity between major and secondary destinations.

AirAsia’s Leadership Vision and Strategy
Independent Non-Executive Chairman Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim described the name change as a defining step in the company’s evolution rather than a simple corporate exercise.
According to him, shareholder approval demonstrates confidence in AirAsia’s long-term strategy and supports its goal of building the world’s first low-cost network carrier.
He said the unified airline group will leverage the strengths of its combined operations to deliver more seamless journeys while creating additional value for passengers, shareholders, and business partners.
He added that the enlarged airline group is entering its next growth phase from a position of strength, supported by a broader route network, increased operational scale, and the commitment of AirAsia’s workforce.
The chairman also emphasized that disciplined execution, strong corporate governance, and the entrepreneurial culture that has shaped the airline since its early years will remain central to the company’s future expansion.

Future Growth And Expansion
AirAsia Group views the transformation as an important foundation for long-term sustainable growth as travel demand across the Asia-Pacific region continues to recover and expand.
The airline expects the integrated structure to unlock new commercial opportunities while improving operational resilience across its network.
Greater coordination between airlines will also allow the group to optimize schedules, strengthen connectivity, and introduce additional growth initiatives over time.
As one of Asia’s largest low-cost airline brands, AirAsia intends to build on its established market presence while maintaining its commitment to affordable air travel.
The company believes its unified structure will better position it to compete in an increasingly connected aviation market and support future expansion across regional and international destinations.
