BUDAPEST — Wizz Air (W6) has announced a major technology upgrade by signing an agreement with Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, to introduce fleet-wide onboard Wi-Fi across its aircraft.
The airline revealed on June 8, 2026, that it will become the first European ultra-low-cost carrier to adopt the connectivity solution, with deployment expected to begin in 2027.
The Hungary-based carrier said the move is designed to make high-speed internet accessible to all travelers rather than limiting the service to premium passengers.
Wizz Air aims to enhance the onboard experience while maintaining its low-cost business model as competition among European airlines increasingly extends beyond fares.

Wizz’s Starlink Wi-Fi Rollout
Wizz Air confirmed that every aircraft in its fleet will eventually receive Starlink equipment, creating a consistent connectivity experience across its network. The airline serves more than 50 countries and operates hundreds of routes throughout Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia and Africa.
The carrier described the partnership as a significant step in bringing premium-style services to budget-conscious travelers.
According to the airline, passengers will be able to remain connected throughout their journey, whether for work, communication, or entertainment.
Ian Malin, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air, said the airline has always focused on making travel opportunities more accessible.
He noted that the introduction of onboard internet represents the next phase of that strategy, allowing customers to enjoy reliable connectivity without sacrificing affordable ticket prices.
Starlink uses a network of low-Earth orbit satellites to provide broadband internet coverage worldwide.
The system has gained popularity among airlines because it offers faster speeds and lower latency than many traditional satellite-based aviation connectivity solutions.

Airlines Embrace Starlink
The agreement places Wizz Air among a growing list of airlines adopting Starlink technology. Over the past few years, carriers across North America and Europe have increasingly selected the service to modernize onboard connectivity.
In the United States, United Airlines (UA), Southwest Airlines (WN), Alaska Airlines (AS), and American Airlines (AA) have announced plans to deploy Starlink across portions or all of their fleets. Several airlines have cited passenger demand for reliable internet access as a key factor behind their decisions.
The technology enables passengers to browse the internet, stream content, send messages, and access online services during flights. As travelers increasingly expect seamless digital experiences, airlines view connectivity as an important competitive advantage.

European Starlink’s Connectivity Race
The latest announcement also highlights growing momentum among European airlines investing in next-generation connectivity systems. Large airline groups have accelerated efforts to improve onboard internet capabilities as passenger expectations continue to evolve.
Major operators including International Airlines Group and Lufthansa Group have already committed to Starlink-powered connectivity solutions.
Their decisions have reinforced the technology’s position as one of the aviation industry’s fastest-growing inflight internet platforms.
Jason Fritch, Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales at SpaceX, welcomed the partnership with Wizz Air and emphasized the benefits of maintaining continuous connectivity for both passengers and crew, Aero Time reported.
He stated that the technology was specifically designed to deliver reliable, high-speed internet throughout the entire flight.
