NEW YORK- JetBlue Airways (B6) will roll out a revamped boarding system on April 29, 2026, replacing its existing branded and lettered groups with a numbered format spanning Groups 1 through 8.
The airline says the update will make gate announcements clearer and deliver a more consistent experience across all JetBlue flights.
However, frequent flyers have already pushed back on the changes. Several travelers on social media platforms argue that the consolidation of boarding groups could lead to longer lines at the gate, increased competition for overhead bin space, and reduced value for certain loyalty tiers.

How the New JetBlue Boarding Order Works
Under the numbered system, premium passengers and loyalty members retain priority access.

- Group 2 covers Mosaic 1 and Mosaic 2 members and passengers who purchase EvenMore extra legroom seats.
- Group 3 is reserved for co-branded credit card holders, select fare types, and customers who purchase early boarding add-ons.
- General boarding follows in Groups 4 through 8, assigned based on seat location.
Passengers with disabilities will continue to receive pre-boarding access. Active military members and travelers with car seats or strollers will be offered courtesy boarding before numbered groups begin. Gary Leff, a Texas-based travel industry analyst and author of the blog View From the Wing, sees the update as a dual-purpose move. He noted that JetBlue (B6) is reducing the total number of boarding groups while tying earlier boarding access to higher-margin products.
Passengers who purchase premium seats or hold co-branded credit cards now receive a better boarding position as part of their package.
Leff described the change as part of the airline’s broader effort to use boarding as a monetization tool. He observed that JetBlue performs well in the air but has room to improve its ground operations. The numbered system, in his view, both simplifies the process and drives incremental revenue from add-on purchases.

Frequent Flyer Concerns Over Group Sizes
