LONDON— Jet2 (LS) has expanded its Greece network by introducing Thassos as a new destination for Summer 2027, strengthening its position as a leading leisure airline. The program will operate via Kavala International Airport (KVA), offering travelers access to one of Greece’s lesser-known island destinations.
The expansion reflects growing demand for Greek holidays from UK travelers, with departures planned from Birmingham Airport (BHX), Manchester Airport (MAN), and London Stansted Airport (STN). The move also reinforces Jet2’s strategy of adding unique destinations while increasing connectivity to regional airports.

Jet2 Launching Thassos Flights
Jet2 will operate seasonal services to Kavala, which serves as the gateway to Thassos. Flights will run between May and October 2027, aligning with the peak Mediterranean travel season.
The airline has scheduled weekly departures from Birmingham and London Stansted, while Manchester will see two weekly services.
The London Stansted to Kavala route will remain exclusive to Jet2, further strengthening its competitive advantage in the UK leisure market.
Passengers will complete their journey to Thassos via a short ferry transfer from the mainland. Ground transportation to hotels will also be included as part of the package holiday offering.

Jet2.com Expands into Greece
The addition of Thassos increases Jet2’s footprint in Greece to 16 airport gateways. This network now covers major tourist destinations as well as emerging locations that offer more traditional travel experiences.
Jet2 continues to benefit from strong demand for Greece, driven by its mix of beaches, culture, and affordability. The airline’s expanding portfolio allows it to cater to a wide range of travelers, from luxury holidaymakers to budget-conscious families.
Thassos stands out due to its relatively untouched character. The island features pine-covered landscapes, coastal resorts, and a slower pace of life compared to more crowded destinations.

Travel Experience
Jet2holidays will offer a range of accommodations across multiple resorts on the island. Options will include properties from budget-friendly hotels to upscale resorts, ensuring flexibility for different traveler preferences.
The package holidays will include return transfers, a 22kg baggage allowance, and customer support services. These features aim to simplify the travel experience while maintaining competitive pricing.
Industry recognition has played a key role in Jet2’s growth, with the company maintaining a strong reputation among UK travelers. Its consistent service quality and transparent pricing continue to drive customer loyalty.

Thassos Travel Guide
Thassos, known as the Emerald Isle, is one of Greece’s most unspoiled destinations. Located in the northern Aegean Sea, it offers lush green landscapes, white marble beaches, and crystal-clear turquoise waters.
Unlike many over-touristed Greek islands, Thassos retains its authentic charm, welcoming visitors with friendly locals, affordable accommodations, and rich cultural heritage.

Why Thassos Island Stands Out Among Greek Destinations
Natural Beauty and Landscape
Thassos is the northernmost island in the Aegean Sea, and its position brings a continental climate that sets it apart. Frequent mists and natural mountain springs feed dense pine forests and sprawling olive groves across the island. This greenery is the reason locals and visitors alike call it the Emerald Isle. Arriving by ferry from Kavala, the sight of forested slopes rising from the sea is the first thing that captures attention.
The island’s beaches are equally remarkable. Thassos has been a source of high-quality white marble since ancient times, and this geology directly influences the coastline.
The local sand is alabaster pale, and the shallow waters achieve a striking turquoise clarity. Marine life thrives here because the island has avoided the overfishing and overcrowding that affect many popular Greek destinations.
Local Culture and Traditional Living
Tourism in Thassos remains relatively low compared to islands like Corfu or Kefalonia. This means locals genuinely welcome visitors, and authentic Greek culture plays out naturally in daily life.
Mountain villages across the island give visitors direct access to traditional practices including local honey production, goat cheese making, and olive oil pressing. These are not staged attractions but real livelihoods that have continued for generations.
Accommodation and Value
Hotels, apartments, and villas in Thassos are priced significantly lower than those on more popular Greek islands. This affordability makes it possible to access high-quality stays without stretching a budget.
Notable options include Archetypo Luxury Living, a well-regarded apartment complex situated on the slopes above Golden Beach, and Ilio Mare, a five-star resort on the island’s opposite coast that consistently earns high praise for its facilities and setting.

Top Things to Do in Thassos
Beach towns like Golden Beach, locally known as Chrysi Amoudia, offer a full range of bars, restaurants, sun loungers, and parasols, making them ideal for a relaxed holiday. Beyond the beaches, the island rewards those who choose to explore further.
Key experiences include:
- Swimming in the natural rock pool of Giola
- Visiting ancient ruins including temples and amphitheaters
- Attending sunset at Karnagio Beach Bar
- Exploring the Archangel’s Monastery
- Hiking Mount Ipsarion
- Sampling local food and drink in the mountain villages
The island preserves a sense of stepping back in time, which is increasingly rare across the Greek islands. While destinations like Skopelos draw film tourism and Mykonos attracts luxury crowds, Thassos remains grounded in its own identity.

Bottom Line
The introduction of Thassos also highlights a broader trend in leisure aviation. Airlines are increasingly focusing on secondary destinations that offer authenticity while avoiding overcrowding.
As competition intensifies, expanding into new markets remains a key strategy for growth. Jet2’s latest move demonstrates how airlines are adapting to changing traveler preferences while strengthening their route networks.
