DUBAI- UAE-based airlines are accelerating expansion in 2026 with new destinations across Europe, North America, Central Asia, and the Middle East.
The network growth includes first-time direct services and increased frequencies on major long-haul routes.
Travellers from the UAE will see direct flights to Helsinki and Calgary for the first time, while Abu Dhabi and Sharjah gain stronger links to Europe and regional markets.
According to Gulf News, carriers are widening their global footprint through structured route launches.
UAE Airlines 2026 expansion
UAE airlines are targeting cultural capitals, emerging markets, and underserved European cities. The 2026 strategy balances long-haul expansion with regional connectivity and partnership-driven growth.

Etihad Airways Expands from Abu Dhabi
Etihad Airways (EY) will roll out an extensive list of new services from Abu Dhabi (AUH) in 2026, with multiple city launches clustering in March and beyond.
New destinations include Baku in Azerbaijan, Yerevan in Armenia, Tbilisi in Georgia, Almaty in Kazakhstan, Bucharest in Romania, and Tashkent in Uzbekistan. These additions connect Abu Dhabi to key cultural and commercial centers across Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
Seasonal services to Palma de Mallorca in Spain and Zanzibar in Tanzania will operate through the summer period. Etihad will also introduce a new route to Charlotte, North Carolina, expanding its growing transatlantic network.
The airline will resume 4 weekly flights to Damascus from June 2026. Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves stated that the route reflects the airline’s commitment to connecting people to important destinations.
He also highlighted strong trade growth between the UAE and Syria and the contribution of the Syrian community to the UAE economy.
A strategic partnership with Germany’s Condor will introduce daily flights from Frankfurt and Berlin to Abu Dhabi, increasing inbound connectivity for European travelers.

Emirates Adds Direct Flights to Finland
Emirates (EK), operating from Dubai (DXB), will launch a daily non-stop service to Helsinki. This marks the first direct air link between the UAE and Finland.
The carrier will also increase frequencies on existing long-haul routes such as Tokyo Narita, providing greater flexibility on popular city pairs.

Flydubai Expands European Markets
flydubai (FZ) continues to widen its European footprint with new routes to Iași in Romania, Riga in Latvia, Vilnius in Lithuania, and Chișinău in Moldova. These cities were previously underserved by direct links to Dubai.
The expansion supports both point-to-point demand and connecting traffic through the airline’s partnership with Emirates.
This partnership has become central to Dubai’s aviation model, strengthening the emirate’s role as a global transit hub.
Further route announcements for 2026 are expected as flydubai continues to target secondary European cities.

Air Arabia Strengthens UK Connectivity
Air Arabia (G9), operating from Sharjah (SHJ), will boost its presence in the United Kingdom with twice-daily non-stop flights to London Gatwick.
Flights will operate using the Airbus A321neo LR aircraft, which enables longer sectors while maintaining the airline’s low-cost model. The added capacity allows travelers in the Northern Emirates to reach London without transiting through Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
This expansion supports inbound tourism flows and demonstrates continued testing of affordable medium-haul and long-haul travel demand from the UAE.

Strategic Impact on UAE Aviation
The 2026 launches reinforce the UAE’s position as a global aviation hub. First-time direct routes, seasonal services, and expanded European access strengthen trade, tourism, and community ties.
By combining premium long-haul growth with cost-efficient regional expansion, UAE carriers continue to broaden international connectivity while maintaining competitive network strategies.
