FORT WORTH- American Airlines (AA) will introduce new seasonal routes from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) and Calgary International Airport (YYC) as part of its summer expansion.
The airline will begin daily service to Quebec City and three weekly flights to Calgary in August, strengthening connectivity between New York (JFK) and key Canadian cities during peak travel demand.

American Airlines New York to Canada Flights
American Airlines will start daily flights between New York JFK and Quebec City on August 5, followed by thrice-weekly flights between JFK and Calgary beginning August 6. Both services will run seasonally through October, targeting summer leisure and business travelers.
According to schedule data from Cirium and airline confirmation, the Quebec City service will operate using a 76-seat Embraer E175, while Calgary flights will use the larger 172-seat Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
These additions enhance American’s New York network and provide travelers with direct access to two major Canadian destinations without relying on connecting routes.
The choice of aircraft reflects demand expectations on each route. The Embraer E175 assigned to Quebec City offers efficient capacity suitable for regional demand while maintaining passenger comfort.
Meanwhile, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 serving Calgary supports higher passenger volumes and longer sector efficiency.
This fleet mix allows American to match aircraft size with expected passenger traffic while controlling operational costs, The Points Guy reported.

American Airlines’ Growing Canadian Network
The JFK additions are part of a broader push by American Airlines to expand its Canadian presence.
Since 2024, the airline has added Calgary service from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA), while Quebec City gained service from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).
The carrier continues to strengthen cross-border connectivity as leisure and business travel between the United States and Canada recovers and grows.

Partnership Boost with Porter Airlines
American’s 2025 partnership with Canada’s Porter Airlines further supports network growth.
The agreement includes codeshare cooperation and loyalty program integration, allowing AAdvantage members to earn and redeem miles across both networks.
Porter is also expanding service to American hubs, including Ottawa International Airport (YOW) to Miami International Airport (MIA) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), as well as Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to PHX, expanding connectivity options across North America.

Competitive Landscape on the Routes
American Airlines will face competition in certain markets. WestJet operates flights between JFK and Calgary, while Air Canada connects Calgary with Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
For Quebec City, United Airlines serves the Newark to Quebec City market, creating competition within the broader New York region rather than directly from JFK.
Despite competition, American’s direct JFK connectivity strengthens its appeal for travelers seeking nonstop options from New York.
