FORT WORTH- American Airlines (AA) has started delivering free, high-speed inflight Wi-Fi to loyalty members, expanding coverage to more aircraft than any other airline globally.
The service, sponsored by AT&T, applies to over 2 million American Airlines flights each year and marks a major upgrade in onboard connectivity.
American Airlines is deploying satellite-based Wi-Fi that supports browsing, streaming, and sharing at cruising altitude.
The initiative strengthens the airline’s long-term technology strategy and reinforces its customer-first focus.

American Airlines Free Wi-Fi
American Airlines is introducing complimentary, high-speed Wi-Fi for all members of its loyalty program, sponsored by AT&T.
Advanced satellite technology powers the service, which American Airlines offers exclusively to AAdvantage members.
The rollout follows a phased approach. Beginning in January, the airline is activating free Wi-Fi across 100 percent of its narrowbody and dual-class regional fleets.
By early spring, American Airlines expects to offer the service on nearly every flight. Once fully deployed, American will offer free Wi-Fi on more aircraft than any other carrier worldwide.
As the airline marks 100 years of operations, this launch builds on a legacy of industry firsts, including the first airline loyalty program and the first airport lounge.
The airline treats free, high-speed connectivity as a core travel essential, not a premium add-on.
Passengers can connect through the upgraded aainflight.com portal using their AAdvantage number and password.
After logging in, selecting the Free Wi-Fi option provides immediate access without additional steps.
The redesigned portal prioritizes speed, reliability, and simplicity, enabling consistent performance for work, entertainment, streaming, and sharing throughout the flight.

Loyalty Membership Benefits Beyond Wi-Fi
AAdvantage membership is free and can be completed before departure at aa.com or directly from a passenger’s seat during the flight via aainflight.com.
In addition to complimentary Wi-Fi, members earn miles toward elite status, receive priority boarding benefits, and redeem miles for award travel, upgrades, and vacation packages.
Free, high-speed Wi-Fi is available across 100 percent of American’s narrowbody and dual-class regional aircraft for all AAdvantage members.
New Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft also feature complimentary Wi-Fi as part of the standard onboard experience.
More than 900 mainline aircraft already feature high-speed satellite connectivity, giving American the world’s largest connected fleet.
As a long-standing AT&T business customer, American Airlines identified a strategic alignment with AT&T around the shared belief that people should stay connected anywhere.
By sponsoring inflight Wi-Fi, AT&T enables travelers to remain productive, entertained, and in touch from takeoff to landing.

Leading the Industry in Onboard Technology
American Airlines has invested for more than a decade in inflight connectivity, beginning with early air-to-ground systems in the mid-2000s and evolving into today’s satellite-based network.
The airline operates more satellite-equipped Wi-Fi aircraft than any other carrier and was the first US airline to offer streaming across 100 percent of its mainline fleet.
Complimentary inflight Wi-Fi is powered by Viasat and Intelsat.
This foundation supports future innovation in personalization, digital service delivery, and a more seamless premium travel experience.
