DUBAI- Riga welcomed a new long-haul link this week as flydubai (FZ) inaugurated direct flights between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Riga International Airport (RIX).
The Dubai-based carrier became the first airline from the United Arab Emirates to operate nonstop services to the Latvian capital, launching a three-times-weekly schedule.
The inaugural flight marked a milestone for regional connectivity, positioning Riga as flydubai’s newest gateway in Northern Europe. The service strengthens access between Latvia and Dubai’s global aviation hub, enabling smoother onward travel through flydubai’s codeshare partnership with Emirates.

flydubai launched the new route with a ceremonial arrival in Riga, where airport officials and dignitaries welcomed the aircraft.
The connection supports growing demand for direct travel between the Baltics and the Middle East, while offering passengers shorter journey times and simplified itineraries.
UAE Ambassador to Latvia Noora Juma said the flights represent a new phase in bilateral relations, supporting tourism, trade, and cultural exchange. The route also provides Latvian travelers with expanded access to destinations across Asia, Africa, and Australasia via Dubai.

Europe Network Expansion
The Riga service forms part of flydubai’s broader European growth strategy, which now spans 35 destinations across 20 countries.
In recent weeks, the airline has also launched nonstop flights to Chișinău, Iași, and Vilnius, reinforcing its focus on underserved and emerging markets.
According to flydubai executives, Europe remains a priority region due to its diverse travel demand and strong links with the Gulf. The airline continues to invest in fleet modernization and onboard products to maintain competitiveness across medium-haul routes.
