MUMBAI- India witnessed heightened security activity early Sunday (November 23, 2025) after a Gulf Air (GF) flight operating from Bahrain to Hyderabad was diverted following a bomb threat emailed to airport authorities.
The aircraft, operating as Flight GF274 with 154 passengers onboard, was nearing Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) when the alert was received. The flight had been scheduled to land at 4:55 a.m., but security agencies instructed the diversion as part of mandatory precautionary measures triggered by threat protocols.

Gulf Air Flight Diverted to Mumbai
Officials confirmed that GF274 departed Bahrain around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday before heading toward its original destination. After authorities notified the airline of the threat, the flight was directed to Mumbai for inspection.
Security teams met the aircraft upon landing and carried out comprehensive checks, including baggage screening and internal sweeps.
Gulf Air stated that the diversion complied fully with international safety requirements and that the crew followed all protocols without interruption to passenger safety.

Post-Inspection Clearance
Once authorities completed all procedures, the aircraft was cleared to resume operations. GF274 then departed Mumbai and continued to Hyderabad, arriving at 11:31 a.m., several hours behind schedule.
Passengers were allowed to disembark only after officials confirmed that no explosive device or suspicious item was found onboard.
The airline expressed appreciation for the cooperation of passengers and reiterated that diversions of this nature are essential when threat messages are received.

Pattern of Repeated Hoax Alerts
This incident adds to a growing list of bomb threats associated with Hyderabad’s airports in recent months. Earlier in June, a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt bound for Hyderabad returned to Germany after a similar threat was reported at RGIA.
In another case, the same month, Begumpet Airport also received a security alert, which later turned out to be a hoax.
These repeated threats have pushed security agencies to maintain elevated vigilance across both major airports in the region, increasing monitoring and strengthening coordination with airline operators.

Ongoing Investigation
The email, which arrived in the customer-support inbox of Hyderabad Airport around 3 a.m., immediately activated coordination between airport officials, the airline, and law-enforcement agencies.
Due to the nature of the message and past incidents, emergency decision-making followed established guidelines prioritizing passenger safety.
Authorities confirmed that all procedures followed during the latest diversion were in line with safety norms established for threat management. They added that investigations are now underway to trace the origin of the email.
Officials are examining whether the message was linked to any past hoax attempts, particularly those involving Hyderabad-bound aircraft.
Law-enforcement teams continue to analyze digital traces while ensuring airports remain fully operational and secure.

Bottom Line
The diversion of Gulf Air Flight GF274 to Mumbai underscores the strict safety measures activated whenever a bomb threat is received.
Although the alert turned out to be a false alarm, the incident reflects a concerning pattern of recurring hoax messages targeting Hyderabad’s aviation network.
With investigations ongoing, security agencies remain on high alert to prevent disruptions and ensure passenger safety.
