ATLANTA- Delta Air Lines (DL) is planning to debut a new generation of Delta One business class suites on its future Airbus A350-1000 fleet.
According to leaks, the carrier may install the Thompson Aero VantageNOVA seat in a dense 50 seat configuration, making it its most premium widebody yet.
Rumors suggest Delta’s first A350-1000s could arrive around 2027, and these aircraft may push US business class standards in design, privacy, and layout flexibility. Reported by OMAAT, Delta’s next flagship is shaping up to be ambitious.

Delta New A350-1000 Business Suites
Delta currently has 20 Airbus A350-1000s on order, intended to become its new flagship widebody.
Leaked sources (notably JonNYC) indicate that Delta will fit 50 business class seats in each A350-1000, the highest number of D1 seats the airline has ever proposed.
The rumored seat model is Thompson Aero VantageNOVA, a recently announced product (2024) not yet in service.
Delta already uses Thompson Aero hardware (Vantage XL) on its A350-900s, so the upgrade is a natural extension.
Two layout styles are purportedly possible in a 1-2-1 configuration:
- A full reverse-herringbone design (window seats face windows, center seats face inward)
- A hybrid layout (window seats in herringbone toward aisle, center seats in reverse herringbone)
Seat pitch may be as tight as 40 inches, optimizing density. The front row might get a “business class plus” offering using extra bulkhead space.
Because VantageNOVA is new, certification and real-world testing remain pending. As such, comfort, tech integrations, and cabin finish will reveal the true competitive edge once in service.

Comparisons, Challenges & Strategic Rationale
How This Compares to Competitors? American and United have adopted the Adient Ascent business class seat (or variations thereof).
VantageNOVA appears similar in intent: efficient layouts, aisle access, doors, and flexibility. However, until Delta’s version is in operation, real performance comparisons remain speculative.

Fleet Integration & Retrofitting Questions
Delta is unlikely to retrofit its existing fleet (A330s, 767s, earlier A350s) with VantageNOVA due to structural and cost constraints.
The new seats will probably remain exclusive to the A350-1000 class.

Delivery Timing & Risk
Though earlier rumors suggested 2026, most sources now expect 2027 for initial deliveries of A350-1000s with the new suites.
Delays in seat certification or aircraft schedules could push timelines further.

Why the Bold Move?
Delta’s decision to order the largest A350 variant signals a push toward modernization and long-haul competitiveness.
The aircraft’s range, efficiency, and cabin potential give Delta room to lead in US premium travel, if the product executes well.

Future Outlook
The planned Delta One upgrade carries promise, but its success depends on real service reliability, passenger comfort, and how well Delta markets the experience.
Early leaks and speculation set high expectations. If Delta becomes the launch customer for VantageNOVA, that will be a key milestone in US aviation.
Over time, observers should watch for Delta’s investor presentations, FAA certification updates, and prototype reveals. The first in-flight testing will reveal whether Delta’s flagship truly elevates business class standards.
