GURUGRAM- Tata Group-owned Air India (AI) has announced the optimization of its domestic route network following the integration of Vistara earlier this month.
Starting December 1, 2024, the airline will deploy its top-tier narrowbody cabin products on five key metro-to-metro routes. These flights will exclusively use former Vistara A320-series aircraft, featuring Business, Premium Economy, and Economy Class cabins.
Air India Vistara Planes
The routes include Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Bengaluru, Delhi-Hyderabad, Mumbai-Bengaluru, and Mumbai-Hyderabad. Flights on these routes will operate under Air India’s “AI” code with four-digit numbers beginning with “2,” such as AI2999 for Delhi-Mumbai.
To enhance passenger convenience, Air India will adjust flight schedules to ensure departures are evenly spread throughout the day while maintaining existing frequencies.
The airline now offers over 1,000 weekly round-trip flights on these routes, including
- 56 daily flights on Delhi-Mumbai,
- 36 on Delhi-Bengaluru,
- 24 on Delhi-Hyderabad,
- 22 on Mumbai-Bengaluru, and
- 18 on Mumbai-Hyderabad.
Executive Remarks
Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director of Air India, highlighted that the Vistara merger has created opportunities to enhance customer experiences.
He stated that by combining the strengths of both full-service carriers, Air India can focus its best narrowbody products on high-demand metro-to-metro routes.
The airline plans to expand this premium offering to additional routes as it inducts new aircraft and retrofits its existing narrowbody fleet throughout 2025.
Best Product on Busiest Routes
The aircraft deployed on these routes will feature premium cabins, including eight Business Class seats with 41-inch pitch, seven-inch recline, and leg and footrests; 24 Premium Economy seats with 33-inch pitch and four-inch recline; and 132 Economy Class seats offering 29-inch pitch and three-inch recline.
Passengers can expect a full-service experience with award-winning interiors, complimentary hot meals, lounge access for premium travelers at major airports, and seamless connections to destinations across five continents. Service will adhere to the elevated standards of the new Air India.
The updated domestic network and flight options are now visible across booking platforms, including Air India’s website, mobile app, and authorized travel agents.
Air India will also continue operating one daily widebody flight on the Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Bengaluru, and Delhi-Hyderabad routes using Boeing 777 or Airbus A350 aircraft, marked with three-digit flight numbers under the “AI” prefix.
