AHMEDABAD- Air India Express (IX) flight from Dammam, Saudi Arabia, to New Delhi was diverted to Ahmedabad Airport (AMD) on Monday after a crew member found a tissue paper carrying a b*mb threat message in the aircraft washroom.
The aircraft, carrying 32 passengers and crew, landed at Ahmedabad Airport (AMD) at around 4:30 pm as a precaution. Security agencies searched the aircraft, but no suspicious object was found.
Air India Express Flight Diverted After B*mb Threat
Air India Express (IX) diverted the Dammam (DMM) to New Delhi (DEL) flight to Ahmedabad (AMD) after a crew member discovered a tissue paper with the word b*mb written on it inside the aircraft washroom.
The crew member alerted the flight crew after finding the message. The pilots then decided to divert the aircraft to Ahmedabad as a precautionary measure after receiving information about the potential threat.
Assistant Commissioner of Police for the G Division, VN Yadav, said the aircraft made an emergency landing at Ahmedabad International Airport at approximately 4:30 pm.
The aircraft had 32 passengers onboard, along with crew members. All passengers and crew members were reported safe following the landing.
Security Agencies Conduct Aircraft Search
After the aircraft landed, multiple security agencies began a detailed inspection. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), b*mb disposal squad and dog squad were involved in the security checks.
Authorities searched the aircraft for any suspicious object or material linked to the threat. The checks did not identify anything suspicious, according to the police.
The passengers were accommodated at Terminal 2 of Ahmedabad Airport after leaving the aircraft safely.
The security response followed standard precautionary procedures for a reported b*mb threat involving a commercial aircraft.
Air India Express Activates B*mb Threat Protocol
Air India Express confirmed that the Dammam-New Delhi flight was diverted to Ahmedabad after the airline was notified of a specific b*mb threat.
The airline said the diversion was carried out as a precaution and in accordance with security protocols. The government-appointed B*mb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was also alerted after the threat was reported.
Air India Express said security procedures were initiated promptly following the notification. The aircraft remained subject to security checks before being cleared for further operations.
The airline stated that all passengers disembarked safely after the aircraft landed in Ahmedabad.
Investigation Underway
Police and security agencies have launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are examining the origin and credibility of the threat message found inside the aircraft.
The discovery of the message triggered the precautionary diversion despite security teams finding no suspicious object during their search.
Air India Express said the aircraft would be released for operations only after the required security checks were completed. The incident temporarily disrupted the Dammam-New Delhi journey while authorities completed the necessary procedures.
Passengers Remain Safe After Diversion
The emergency landing ended without injuries or a reported security incident onboard. Passengers were moved to Terminal 2 at Ahmedabad Airport while authorities handled the investigation and security process.
The incident highlights the immediate security response required when a b*mb threat is reported on a commercial flight. In this case, the flight crew, pilots, airline, and airport security agencies followed precautionary procedures before allowing the aircraft to return to normal operations.
