MONTREAL- Canadian national carrier, Air Canada (AC) plans to make several route cuts and capacity adjustments on US flight Routes for Summer 2025.
An independent analyst, Ishrion Aviation has reported these changes on its website and also on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Air Canada Cuts Some US Routes
The airline plans to cancel flights to three U.S. cities—Hartford, CT (BDL), Kansas City, MO (MCI), and Baltimore, MD (BWI)—from its Toronto (YYZ) hub. These routes were initially expected to return in the summer of 2025, but the cancellations mean these cities will not see service for at least another year.
Additionally, Air Canada will not resume its Toronto to Portland (PDX) route, which had been on hiatus.
Beyond route eliminations, the airline is reducing flight frequencies on several other U.S. routes, though specific reductions have not been detailed.
Capacity Increase
At the same time, Air Canada is strategically increasing capacity on select routes by introducing mainline aircraft and boosting flight frequencies.
For instance, the Toronto-to-Chicago (ORD) route will see an increase from four to six daily flights.
Starting May 1, Toronto flights to Philadelphia (PHL), Raleigh/Durham (RDU), and St. Louis (STL) will operate daily using the Airbus A220-300, marking a shift to mainline service.
Charlotte (CLT) will also gain daily mainline service with the Airbus A220-300 beginning June 1.
A330 to Tampa, Florida
Air Canada is upgrading its Toronto-Tampa route with Airbus A330-300 service starting February 1.
The airline will operate two daily widebody flights, replacing the previously planned four daily narrowbody frequencies.
This service enhancement will utilize the A330-300’s increased capacity to consolidate passenger demand on the route. The widebody deployment is currently scheduled to continue through February 28, 2024.
Air Canada will offer around 160,000 weekly seats to the U.S. during the peak of summer 2025.
Air Canada is the largest carrier serving the Transborder market and will offer passengers more than 200 daily flights to over 45 destinations in Summer 2025.
