TORONTO- An air hostess assigned to the Pakistan International Airlines (PK) flight from Lahore to Toronto (YYZ) has been apprehended at the Toronto airport after passports belonging to individuals seemingly unassociated with her were discovered.
According to sources, passports of individuals allegedly unrelated to her were found in the possession of the detained air hostess, identified as Hina Sani, who was assigned to flight PK-789 bound for Toronto.
Pakistan Airlines Crew Arrested at Toronto
Insider information suggests that this is not the initial instance of concern regarding the behavior of the air hostess. Previously, she had reportedly received warnings for allegedly attempting to bring contraband into Canada.
Additionally, it has been revealed that the detained air hostess is a relative of a popular Pakistani singer and is also recognized as a social media model. Her involvement in such an incident has attracted considerable attention and raised inquiries about the circumstances surrounding her detention.
Moreover, it has emerged that seven other flight attendants were accompanying Hina Sani on flight PK 789, all of whom have been labeled as “no-flyers” by the airline for Toronto.
The sources also disclosed that the crew received special permission from the Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Flight Services, using his personal ID, which deviates from standard protocol. This raises additional questions about the events leading up to the incident.
After the detention, Canadian authorities interrogated the other two air hostesses aboard the flight. They were later permitted to return to their hotel after the questioning.
It should be noted that carrying passports belonging to individuals other than oneself while traveling constitutes an international offense.
Abdullah Khan, a spokesman for PIA, commented on the matter, confirming awareness of the incident and ongoing communication with Canadian authorities for collaboration. “We will fully cooperate with Canadian authorities, and we are prepared to take any legal action recommended,” added the spokesperson.
This incident is not the first time a PIA staff member has come under scrutiny by Canadian authorities. Last month, an air hostess from the national flag carrier was reportedly reported missing while on duty in Canada.
Similar Incidents
The incident surfaced when Maryam Raza, assigned to flight PK-782 from Pakistan to Toronto, failed to report for duty on returning PK-784 from Toronto to Karachi. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that during the investigation, a note expressing gratitude to PIA was discovered alongside her hanging uniform in her room, bearing the message “Thank you, PIA.”
In a similar occurrence earlier in January, the first PIA crew member of 2024 went missing in Canada. Air hostess Faiza Mukhtar, who was assigned to flight PK-781 from Islamabad to Toronto, was allegedly absent. She was expected to fulfill duties on flight 784 from Toronto to Karachi.
PIA became aware of the incident when Faiza Mukhtar, aged 40, purportedly did not join the crew for the return flight. According to sources, she has left behind a four-year-old son.
A spokesperson for PIA stated that departmental disciplinary measures have been initiated against Mukhtar, as affidavits of air hostesses are on record with the national carrier, which will also be shared with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further action.
