UNITED KINGDOM- A tragic incident occurred on a Jet2 Airlines (LS) plane, leading to the death of a passenger and necessitating a diversion of the flight.
The deceased individual was reportedly discovered inside the airplane’s restroom on Tuesday when fellow passengers noticed the locked door for an extended period and brought it to the attention of the crew.
Jet2 Passenger Found Dead
Originally en route from Tenerife (TFN) to Manchester (MAN), the flight had to make an unplanned landing in Cork (ORK), Ireland.
A passenger revealed to the Mirror that everyone on board was deeply affected by the distressing event and criticized the crew for being perceived as dismissive.
The passenger conveyed, “My husband reported someone had been in [the] toilet a long time, and he thought he was dead. Tragically, he was right. He informed the crew who were dismissive towards him.”
The passenger additionally mentioned that, as a consequence, the plane did not land in Manchester until approximately five hours beyond the initially scheduled arrival time.
The plane, originally intended to land in Manchester at 8:30 pm, arrived at around 1:30 am due to the diversion to Cork and the subsequent wait for another plane.
Official Remarks
A spokesperson for the airline informed The Independent, stating, “Flight LS918 from Tenerife to Manchester diverted to Cork Airport on Tuesday 2nd January, due to a customer requiring medical attention.”
“Regrettably, we can confirm that the customer sadly passed away, despite the best efforts of our highly-trained crew, who intervened as soon as they became aware.”
“This was an extremely difficult situation for our crew, and we would like to thank them for their efforts. Our thoughts are with the customer’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”
Similar Incident
Tragically, one of the passengers on a Jet2 aircraft has passed away. The flight headed for Manchester had to make an emergency stop in Newquay on Sunday night (April 2, 2023).
The LS756 flight from Tenerife sent out an alert about three hours into the journey because a passenger required medical attention. The passenger, who is believed to be a lady, required immediate medical attention, so the aircraft descended towards Cornwall Airport Newquay.
Passengers who spoke to the Manchester Evening News (MEN) recounted the emotional scenes on board. A passenger told the MEN that a man was escorting a lady he was with to the loo a few hours into the flight. She appeared to be in a terrible situation and was in anguish.
Many people were clearly upset and emotional as a result of what was happening. When she collapsed, they began conducting CPR and had oxygen and a defibrillator on board. Before we touched down in Newquay, they continued doing this for about an hour.
“When we landed, the air ambulance and a second ambulance were waiting. They quickly got the steps and carried her out of the side of the plane on a scoop stretcher.”
