CHICAGO- United Airlines (UA) today revealed its decision to provide more flights than ever before in its history to Florida this winter. The Chicago-based carrier plans to offer 20% more capacity than last winter, with flights to sunny destinations such as Miami, Tampa, and Orlando.
The airline, for the first time, plans to deploy mainline aircraft, which will double the capacity from Key West International Airport and its major hubs such as Chicago, Washington Dulles, Houston, and New York/Newark.
United Airlines Florida Flights
The carrier will also provide 11 different and popular winter destinations from Florida, where passengers can have the opportunity to ski and enjoy other winter sports.
United.com’s recent search and booking data reveal that Miami and Orlando are among the top five most-searched domestic travel destinations this winter. The other three destinations in the top five are Honolulu, Cancun, and Las Vegas.
United Airlines has responded to the increased demand for travel to Florida this winter by flying larger aircraft, which gives customers more options on how they choose to fly with the airline.
This move is in line with the airline’s United Next strategy, which allows customers to customize their travel journey more than ever before. Whether they prefer an elevated experience in United First® or a budget-friendly Basic Economy fare, customers can now tailor their travel experience to their liking.
A321neo Deployment
United Airlines will be introducing one of its newest planes, the Airbus 321neo, on select routes to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Fort Myers, FL, starting in December.
This move is aimed at adding more seats to some of Florida’s most popular cities. The company has also announced the purchase of 60 additional Airbus 321neos, with deliveries beginning in 2028.
Mark Weithofer, United’s Managing Director of Domestic Network Planning, said,
“We know that November is when most people start their winter travel planning, so we’re adding these flights to give customers more options than ever. We’ve already begun to see record-breaking demand for winter travel, and whether customers are looking to unwind on the beach or hit the slopes, United is the clear choice for those planning their getaways.”
Largest Ever Florida Expansion
United Airlines is planning to increase the number of flights it operates between key routes, including Chicago-Fort Myers, Denver-Fort Lauderdale, and Chicago-Miami.
The airline will fly the Boeing 777 between Chicago and Orlando, which offers more than double the seats of a narrowbody aircraft.
United Airlines is also making reaching the southernmost point in Florida easier. Starting November 28, the airline will fly Boeing 737-700 aircraft to Key West International Airport (EYW) for the first time in the company’s history. Nonstop routes include Newark/New York, Washington Dulles, Houston, and Chicago O’Hare.
Northeastern Ohioans will also have even more options for a Florida getaway this winter. United is growing its daily service to several Florida destinations out of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE).
The frequency of flights from Cleveland to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, and Orlando will be increased from one flight per day to two daily, nonstop flights. United is also reintroducing daily nonstop service to Tampa, operating on a Boeing 737-900ER.
