LONDON- Starting today, British Airways (BA) Executive Club Members who book flights will earn Avios based on the ticket’s cost.
In an effort to provide a more consistent and transparent system, the airline announced in July that Avios collection would be determined by the ticket’s price rather than the flight’s distance, effective for flights booked from October 18, 2023.
British Airways Avios Model
This change marks the first time that Members can accrue Avios on eligible ancillary purchases, encompassing pre-paid selections, upgrades, and excess baggage fees.
The airline’s investment in its frequent flyer program anticipates a 20 percent increase in the issuance of Avios to the overall member base. Most Members can expect to either earn more Avios or the same amount under the new model.
As of today, when booking flights, members will earn Avios according to their Tier status as follows:
- Blue members will receive 6 Avios for every qualifying* £1 spent.
- Bronze members will receive 7 Avios for every qualifying £1 spent.
- Silver members will receive 8 Avios for every qualifying £1 spent.
- Gold members will receive 9 Avios for every qualifying £1 spent.
This updated model will also be applicable to flights marketed by Iberia (IB)** and American Airlines (AA).
