TEL AVIV- On Sunday night, a fresh rocket attack originating from Gaza was reported, with Hamas asserting that they had targeted Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) in Tel Aviv, as per the Times of Israel.
Rocket sirens were activated in various central Israeli areas, including Rishon Lezion. Reports indicate that the rocket onslaught has impacted a number of residential buildings in the southern coastal city of Ashkelon in Israel.
Tel Aviv Airport Under Attack
Medical personnel are responding to the scene, but no immediate information regarding casualties is available.
Hamas has declared that they launched around 100 rockets at Ashkelon. Videos depicting the Iron Dome intercepting incoming Hamas rockets have surfaced online.
As per the most recent update from the Health Ministry, a total of 2,315 individuals have been injured and received medical treatment in various hospitals throughout Israel. Among them, 23 are currently in critical condition. The death toll has now reached 700 and is anticipated to continue rising.
Hamas senior official Moussa Abu Marzouk has asserted that the group is currently holding more than 100 Israeli hostages, which includes high-ranking army officials.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have initiated extensive retaliatory airstrikes against the Shuja’iyya neighborhood in Gaza City, targeting approximately 150 sites.
Official Statement
In an official statement, the IDF disclosed, “The IDF’s regular and reserve ground forces, in collaboration with other security forces, have been engaged in sustained combat operations in the surrounding towns of Gaza. Over the past 40 hours, they have neutralized hundreds of terrorists in these towns, along the border and coastline.”
Meanwhile, numerous flights to and from Tel Aviv have been canceled by major airlines, including American Airlines, Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates, and Ryanair.
However, Israeli flag carrier El Al (LY) has confirmed its continued operation of Tel Aviv flights at this time. A spokeswoman mentioned, “We may consider canceling flights to destinations with fewer Israelis to assist fellow Israelis in other locations.”
