FLORIDA- Global Crossing Airlines or GlobalX (G6) is delighted to announce that it has agreed with Sheltair Aviation to finance and construct a new aircraft maintenance facility situated at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (KFLL).
The commencement of construction for this new facility is anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2023, with plans to commence operations in the second quarter of 2025. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $25 million.
Global Crossing Airlines New Maintenance Facility
Ed Wegel, Chair and CEO of GlobalX, stated, “We are delighted to collaborate with Sheltair in constructing our main maintenance facility. This cutting-edge facility will encompass approximately 69,650 square feet, incorporating hangar, office, and workshop areas, providing the capacity to accommodate either three A320 family aircraft or one A330-sized aircraft.”
He further added, “This facility is pivotal to our expansion plans, allowing us to conduct maintenance on our growing Airbus fleet, including C checks. Sheltair brings extensive experience in designing, financing, and constructing hangar facilities, consistently adding new projects to their portfolio while serving as construction program managers.”

Sheltair Aviation, celebrating its 60th year, is a prominent developer and operator of premium aviation facilities. Founded by Jerry Holland in 1963 and currently led by his daughter, Lisa Holland, who serves as Shelters President and CEO, the company has holdings at 21 locations across Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Colorado.
These holdings comprise over 4.75 million square feet of specialized aviation facilities, including 548,135 square feet already operational at Fort Lauderdale International Airport.
Additionally, Sheltair is in the process of developing 146,730 square feet of facilities at three locations, all expected to be operational between 2023 and 2025. One of these facilities will primarily serve as the GlobalX maintenance base at Fort Lauderdale.
