The terminal building has reached 25 per cent completion, and efforts are in progress to accelerate its construction. A significant milestone in the airport’s development is the successful construction of a 2,200-meter-long runway.
Subsequently, in the second phase of development, this runway will be extended to 3,125 meters, and in the third phase, it will be further extended to 3,750 meters. International flights are expected to be introduced once the third phase is completed.
Vinod Kumar also disclosed that the airport authority plans to submit an application to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for clearance to commence flights once the terminal building reaches completion in October.
The DGCA will conduct an inspection of the airport before granting the necessary permissions to begin flight operations.
Cost of the Project
Financially, the first phase of this ambitious airport project has been allocated a budget of Rs 321 crore, with additional funding required for the subsequent phases.
Covering an expansive 821-acre area of land, 799 acres have already been acquired, and efforts are ongoing to acquire the remaining land parcels. Kumar emphasized that both land and funding resources are readily available to ensure the successful completion of the airport.
In this exciting development, the Ayodhya International Airport is poised to initially offer flights connecting to major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
The extension of the runway to 3,750 meters in the third phase will pave the way for international flights, further enhancing the region’s connectivity and accessibility.
