MUMBAI- Tata-owned Air India (AI) flight from CSMIA Mumbai (BOM) to London Heathrow (LHR) made a U-turn after experiencing a left engine failure.
According to FlightRadar24 (FR24) data, the flight made a U-Turn immediately after takeoff and landed safely.
Air India Mumbai to London Flight Engine Failure
Now let us establish the flight timeline based on FR24 data. Air India flight AI131 took off from Mumbai (BOM) with 30 minutes delay at around 2:37 PM IST.
Immediately after takeoff, at around 2:45 PM, the pilot witnessed the issue with the left engine. The flight crew contacted Mumbai ATC, and it turned back towards BOM.
Without burning extra fuel, the flight crew landed heavily at BOM at 3:30 PM IST. The flight remained airborne for 53 minutes. All passengers and flight crew are safe.
The aircraft involved in the incident is Boeing 787-8, registered as VT-ANW. Further, the aircraft is 6.8 years old; Boeing delivered it to AI in 2016.
IndiGo Engine Issue
India’s largest carrier, IndiGo (6E) Airlines flight from Patna (PAT) to Delhi (DEL), made an emergency landing back at PAT as one of the engines became inoperative during the flight.
IndiGo’s Airbus A320neo, registered as VT-IIG, operates the flight. Further, it is just 2 years old; Airbus delivered it to 6E back in October 2021.

An Indigo flight operating the Patna-Delhi route had to return to its departure airport due to a technical problem. Just three minutes after takeoff, the pilot informed that one of the engines was not functioning. Fortunately, the aircraft landed safely at 9:11 am. The airport official stated that according to the pilot, additional help was not needed, and everything is functioning as usual at the airport.
