UNITED STATES- The flag carrier of Iceland, Icelandair (FI), has plans to add more capacity to its US destinations in the next year. Further, the airline possibly boosts its four US destinations.
According to Ishrion Aviation, the 86-year-old carrier will likely add more flights to its existing US routes. This includes Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
Icelandair to Boosts Flights to US Destinations
According to Source, the Newark (EWR) daily flights currently served by Boeing 757-300 will be replaced by 767-300ER in 2024.
The Raleigh (RDU) will see an increase in capacity from five weekly to Six weekly flights. Furthermore, the Detroit (DTW) will see boosts from four to five weekly flights in 2024.
The New York (JFK) is set to get four additional weekly flights. Icelandair currently operates 17 weekly flights, but with four different flights, it will be 21 weekly flights from Reykjavik (RKV) to JFK.
The effective date for these increases is expected to be in late May or early June 2024. Further, it is anticipated that further adjustments will be made in the future.

Icelandair has strengthened and expanded its network over the past decades by connecting passengers traveling to and from Iceland with those crossing the Atlantic via Iceland. Further, It is centered around its hub, strategically located in the North Atlantic.

The Boeing 757s are well-suited for operations along the US West Coast. Further to Canada due to their long range and versatility.
For high-density markets in Europe and on the US East Coast, the Boeing 767s are preferred. Subsequently, they offer a high passenger load and ample cargo capacity.
As for FI’s latest fleet additions, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and Boeing 737 MAX 9, are designed to minimize fuel consumption, reduce noise levels, and feature an innovative cabin redesign. Further, these aircraft bring together enhanced efficiency and passenger comfort.
