The demand for aviation technicians is very high even though the nation has a severe pilot shortage. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in DeLand employs Charles Horning as a professor. According to him, these mechanics are seriously lacking.
According to Horning, the mechanic must certify that the plane is airworthy before it may take off, even if there are two pilots seated up front.
Boeing Aviation Technicians Report
To fly and maintain airplanes around the world during the next 20 years, according to Boeing’s annual Pilot and Technician outlook, more than 600,000 new maintenance technicians will be required.
According to Horning, the COVID-19 pandemic is partly to blame for that. Horning said, “There was a decline in the number of new technicians becoming certified, so you’re looking at a deficit of technicians, say, two years out.
” “Those people who will fill those positions need to start attending school immediately, as most institutions last between 16 and 24 months.”
Each year over the next ten years, it is anticipated that there will be more than 13,000 opportunities for mechanics and technicians of aviation and avionics.
Federal Aviation Administration
“There’s a huge gap between the number of openings and the number of new technicians that are being certified yearly,” Horning said. “Just last year, the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) only certificated less than 7,000 new technicians.”
In Horning’s opinion, that disparity can be linked to a confluence of rising retirement rates and the aviation sector’s continued growth.
Charles Horning Statement
According to Horning, people simply aren’t aware that the positions are available, which is another problem. Further, Portia Ani, an ERAU student, claims that her childhood abilities first ignited her interest in aviation mechanics.
I enjoy issues, Ani declared. “I like challenges where you start with the issue and work your way up to the solution, like fixing it and getting it to work.”
Great remuneration goes hand in hand with great demand. Subsequently, the annual average pay for maintenance technicians is above $65,000. Which may also include signing incentives and reimbursement for moving costs.
According to Horning, the pilot business has been carrying out these practices for a while. “From an aircraft maintenance standpoint, this is fairly new.”
