Boeing and AI Engineering Services Limited (AIESL) established a partnership on Tuesday for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of two custom-built B777 aircraft used for the president, vice president, and prime minister’s travel.
According to their joint statement, the two firms’ collaboration would help the Indian Navy’s increasing P-8I fleet.
According to the announcement, the agreement will help establish indigenous MRO capabilities by bringing P-8I landing gear repair and overhaul work to India for the first time.
"Our planned collaboration with AIESL could position us to provide significant value-add to our defence customers locally by enabling faster turnaround, exceptional operational capability, and mission readiness for the Indian armed forces," said Surendra Ahuja, Managing Director, Boeing Defence India.
He said, “This is also a key milestone in our commitment to the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat objective of making India a regional MRO hub.”
Boeing delivered the two custom-built VVIP aircraft to the Indian government in October 2020.
The plane used to transport the dignitaries is operated by IAF pilots.
