CHICAGO- United Airlines (UA) will deploy its premium Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with the new Elevated cabin on special flights between Las Vegas (LAS) and Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT) in January 2027.
The limited-time service will coincide with the 2027 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), bringing United’s latest Polaris business-class experience to a route that does not regularly receive the airline’s most premium aircraft.

United Brings Its Elevated Boeing 787-9 to Las Vegas
United Airlines plans to operate its premium-configured Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on three departures from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to Narita International Airport (NRT) on January 9, 10, and 11, 2027.
According to The Points Guy, the aircraft will feature United’s new Elevated cabin, which introduces the airline’s next-generation Polaris business-class suites and the more spacious Polaris Studio seats.
The aircraft’s appearance in Las Vegas represents a notable deployment for United. The airline has primarily assigned its Elevated Boeing 787-9 aircraft to major international markets where premium travel demand is strong, including London, Singapore and Seoul.
United typically operates these aircraft through major hubs such as San Francisco and Houston. The temporary Las Vegas-Tokyo service will give passengers departing from Nevada an opportunity to experience the airline’s latest long-haul product without travelling through one of its main connecting hubs.
The Elevated Boeing 787-9 also has 99 premium seats, giving it a significantly larger premium-cabin offering than United’s conventional international configurations.

CES 2027 Drives United’s Special Tokyo Flights
The additional flights are timed around CES 2027, one of the largest technology exhibitions in the world. The event will take place in Las Vegas from January 6 through January 9, attracting technology companies, business executives, exhibitors and visitors from international markets.
The exhibition creates additional demand for international flights, particularly from major technology and business centres in Asia.
Airlines frequently adjust their schedules around major events by introducing temporary routes, adding frequencies or deploying larger and more premium aircraft. These changes allow carriers to accommodate short-term demand without making permanent adjustments to their networks.
United’s decision to use its Elevated Boeing 787-9 for the Las Vegas-Tokyo departures will provide additional premium capacity for travellers leaving the event.
The timing also places the aircraft on the route immediately after CES concludes on January 9.

United Boeing 787-9 Elevated Cabin and Seat Configuration
United’s new Boeing 787-9 Elevated interior represents a significant investment in its international premium travel experience.
The aircraft features a total of 222 passenger seats, including 99 premium seats and 123 economy-class seats.
| Cabin | Number of Seats |
|---|---|
| Polaris Studio | 8 |
| Polaris Business Class | 56 |
| Premium Plus | 35 |
| Economy Plus | 33 |
| Economy | 90 |
| Total | 222 |
The eight Polaris Studio suites sit at the top of United’s business-class offering. They provide fully lie-flat seating, all-aisle access, and approximately 25% more space than standard Polaris seats.
Six of the eight Studio suites also feature an additional ottoman seat with a seatbelt, allowing passengers travelling together to share the space.
The suites include 27-inch 4K OLED entertainment screens, wireless charging, upgraded bedding and exclusive amenity kits. United also offers enhanced dining features, including an Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche paired with Champagne on eligible Polaris Studio services.
The remaining 56 Polaris seats provide lie-flat business-class seating, while the 35 Premium Plus seats offer additional space and privacy compared with standard economy.
The main cabin contains 123 seats, including 33 Economy Plus seats with additional legroom and 90 standard Economy seats.
This configuration gives United a substantial premium offering for a wide range of international travellers.

United’s January 2027 Las Vegas-Tokyo Flight Schedule
United will operate the special flights in both directions across two separate date windows.
The Boeing 787-9 with the Elevated interior will operate from Las Vegas to Tokyo on January 9, 10 and 11.
However, passengers travelling in the opposite direction will receive a different aircraft. United plans to operate the Tokyo-Narita to Las Vegas flights on January 3, 4 and 5 using an older Boeing 777-200ER.
This means the premium Elevated cabin will not be available on the Tokyo-Las Vegas departures during the initial travel period.
The aircraft difference is important for passengers selecting their flights. Travellers departing Las Vegas for Tokyo on the three scheduled dates will have the opportunity to experience the new Polaris Studio product, while passengers travelling from Tokyo to Las Vegas will receive the Boeing 777-200ER cabin.
United’s temporary schedule is designed around the CES travel window rather than establishing a regular Las Vegas-Tokyo service.

Delta Air Lines Also Expands CES 2027 Flights
Delta Air Lines (DL) is also increasing its international and domestic capacity around CES 2027, making Las Vegas an important destination for its January network operations.
Delta has announced special nonstop services connecting Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) with Harry Reid International Airport (LAS).
The additional Hong Kong-Las Vegas service will operate with an inbound flight on January 4 and an outbound flight on January 10. The Taipei-Las Vegas service will bring passengers to Las Vegas on January 5, with the return flight scheduled for January 10.
Delta is also adding flights from other international markets, including Shanghai (PVG) and Seoul-Incheon (ICN), during the CES travel period.
Alongside its international operations, the airline is increasing domestic frequencies from key hubs and markets. Its expanded schedule includes additional services from Atlanta, Detroit, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and Boston.
Delta will also operate twice-daily service from Austin (AUS) during the peak travel window from January 4 through January 10.
The airline expects its CES 2027 schedule to exceed 120 flights on peak days, strengthening connections between Las Vegas and major business and technology markets.
Delta has a history of using CES to showcase its technology and onboard innovations. The airline previously announced plans to introduce complimentary onboard Wi-Fi for SkyMiles members during the convention and used the Las Vegas Sphere for a major keynote presentation in January 2025.
The expanded schedule for CES 2027 reflects the importance of the event to Delta’s international and domestic network.

What United’s Special Flight Means for Travellers
United’s decision to deploy its most premium Boeing 787-9 on the Las Vegas-Tokyo route gives travellers a limited opportunity to experience its latest international cabin.
The January 9, 10 and 11 departures will be particularly relevant to passengers seeking Polaris Studio suites, upgraded business-class seating and the airline’s latest onboard amenities.
However, the aircraft assignment is date-specific. Passengers should check the aircraft type and seat map before booking because equipment changes can occur.
For United, the temporary deployment also provides an opportunity to serve international demand generated by a major technology exhibition while showcasing its newest long-haul product in a market where the Elevated 787-9 is rarely seen.
