SYDNEY- Qatar Airways (QR) will launch flights to Western Sydney on 15 December 2027, adding a new international connection between Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) and Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha. The new route will give passengers access to Qatar Airways’ global network through its Doha hub while expanding the airline’s presence in the Australian market.
The Middle Eastern carrier will initially operate three weekly return services using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, with plans to increase the frequency to daily flights by the end of 2028. Tickets for the new route will go on sale on 19 December 2026, giving travellers nearly a year to plan journeys from Sydney’s newest international gateway.

Qatar Airways Adds Doha to Western Sydney Flights
The new service will make Western Sydney the airline’s seventh Australian gateway, joining Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra.
Through Doha, passengers will be able to connect to more than 170 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and other international markets.
The schedule will take advantage of Western Sydney International Airport’s round-the-clock operating capability. Flights arriving from Doha are scheduled to reach WSI at 11:45 p.m., while the return service will depart at 4:10 p.m. the following day and arrive in Doha at 11 p.m.
Qatar Airways will operate the route with its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, featuring 354 seats across two cabins.
The configuration includes 42 business-class seats with the airline’s Qsuite product and 312 economy-class seats, giving passengers premium and standard travel options on the long-haul service.

Western Sydney Airport Expansion
The Qatar Airways announcement adds to the growing international network planned for Western Sydney International Airport.
The airport is designed to operate without the overnight curfew that restricts scheduling at Sydney Airport, giving airlines greater flexibility when planning international arrivals and departures.
Western Sydney International is expected to improve access to overseas markets for residents and businesses across Greater Sydney.
Its location also offers another gateway for international visitors travelling to New South Wales, while the new Qatar Airways service will provide exporters with an additional air-cargo connection to markets in the Gulf and beyond.
The route has received support from the Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund, a $16 million initiative jointly funded by the New South Wales Government and the airport.
The fund is forecast to attract more than 162,000 international visitors to the state and generate an estimated $530 million in visitor expenditure.

Qatar Airways to Go Daily
Qatar Airways plans to increase the initial three-weekly service to daily operations by the end of 2028, subject to the airline’s expansion plans, WSI Airport flagged.
The proposed increase would give travellers more scheduling options and strengthen connections between Western Sydney and the carrier’s international network.
The launch also reflects the airport’s broader ambition to become a major international gateway for Australia. With additional airlines and routes expected to expand its network, WSI is positioning itself as an alternative to Sydney’s established airport for international travel.
For Qatar Airways, the new route builds on its existing Australian operations while opening a second Sydney-area gateway.
The service is expected to support passenger travel, tourism, trade and business links between Australia, Qatar and destinations served through Doha.
