DOHA— Qatar Airways (QR) has reported a record net profit of US$1.94 billion for the 2025/26 financial year, underlining the strength of its business despite major disruption across the Gulf aviation market.
The airline carried 41.8 million passengers through Hamad International Airport (DOH), while its cargo operation handled more than 1.43 million tonnes during the year.
The record result comes as Qatar Airways prepares for another major phase of fleet expansion. The airline has committed to 160 Boeing widebody aircraft, comprising 130 787 Dreamliners and 30 777-9s, while options for another 50 aircraft could take the total agreement to 210 jets.

Qatar Airways Posts Record Profit Amid Global Disruptions
Qatar Airways Group reported QAR 7.08 billion, equivalent to US$1.94 billion, in net profit for the financial year ending March 31, 2026. Its operating profit reached QAR 15.2 billion, or about US$4.1 billion, which the airline described as the highest in its history.
The result is notable because the final period of the financial year was affected by severe geopolitical disruption.
Qatar Airways temporarily suspended scheduled operations after Qatari airspace was closed in March, but the airline subsequently began rebuilding its network and restoring services to international destinations.
Cargo also remained a major contributor to the group’s global position.
Qatar Airways Cargo transported more than 1.43 million tonnes of chargeable weight and maintained a reported 12% share of the global air freight market, strengthening Doha’s role as a major international cargo hub.

Boeing Order Reaches 210 Jets For Future Fleet Expansion
The Boeing agreement was announced on May 14, 2025, during a high-level meeting in Doha involving U.S. President Donald Trump, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Boeing leadership.
The deal covers 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 30 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, with options for 50 additional 787 and 777X aircraft.
Boeing described the agreement as the largest widebody order in its history, while the 787 portion also became the largest Dreamliner order ever announced. The deal was valued at approximately US$96 billion and marked Qatar Airways’ largest aircraft order.
The new aircraft will support the airline’s long-term international growth while helping renew and expand its widebody fleet. The 787 is expected to play an important role on long-haul routes, while the larger 777-9 will add capacity on high-demand international services, MIGFLUG reported.

Qatar Airways Targets Growth With Major Fleet Expansion
The fleet investment gives Qatar Airways a substantial platform for future expansion as international passenger demand continues to develop.
It also strengthens Boeing’s position with one of the world’s leading long-haul airlines at a time when manufacturers face large backlogs and delivery challenges.
Qatar Airways’ financial performance also places it among the strongest Gulf aviation groups.
With record operating profit, 41.8 million passengers and a major Boeing commitment, the carrier is using its financial strength to expand its fleet and reinforce Doha’s position as a global aviation hub.
